Engineers Have anyone seen an Engineer base in a daylight?

I apologize for a silly thread, but despite my almost unconditional love for everything 2.1, this one thing is really bugging me.
I haven't seen an Engineer base. I've heard that the bases are hand-crafted and really awesome in comparison to standard planetary settlements. Well, I can't say. I see only silhouettes and landing lights.

I've been to the six Engineer bases I have access to many times. 20, maybe 30. Two of my ships are fully grade 2-3 modded.

Yet I haven't seen an Engineer base.
Tell me about luck.

Okay, now seriously, I can't explain it. I have two theories - one, that the engineers can drive the planet and always turn their base away from the sun (Go Deathstar no. 3) or all Engineers' planets by some coincidence have 24-hour day cycle, which means that during my usual playing hours it's always night.

Drat.

I don't know the answer, but I've had the same luck. Maybe next time you're there look on the system map at the planet and see what its rotation is. Possible that some are tidal locked.

Most of them are actually moons orbiting another planet, so tidal lock is out of the question. And yes, I keep forgetting to check the system data.

I was in martuuk's base once during daylight. the crater close to her base is an incredible source of iron BTW.. ;)

Neither. The most logical answer is cosmology 101 - same reason why we have for our own Earth Moon a dark side and earth side --> the rotation period of the moon matches or is roughly equal to it's orbit.
e.g as the moon orbits, it also rotates along it's axis at same period such that only one side is ever facing the earth.

So the real question is - why the conspiracy? :)
Did the Engineers all meet as some cabal and decide to establish bases only on moons/planets with matching rotation / orbit speeds? Is this a new setup to a vampire meme to ED? Inquiring minds and trash tabloids want to know...

You're also wrong :)
"Dark side of the moon" isn't dark at all. It only faces away from Earth, but rotates normally relative to Sun - there's 14 day-long day, there, every month. ;)

You're wrong saying I'm wrong :)

Unless you can quote where I said, alleged, or even hinted that the reference to "dark side and earth side" meant anything other than what they are by common nomenclature called.

Whether it is lit during certain periods or not, fact is by common popular culture and reference, it is referred to as the earth side and dark side of the moon. That's what I called them by.

I've been to engineers bases 5 or 6 times, and also noticed they were always on the night side.

If this is not simply bad luck on my part, then I assume those engineers chose to establish themselves on the dark side of tidally locked planets due to the shady (!) nature of their business. (Not sure about the case when the planet is orbiting another and not the star directly...)

Edit @sndle9 : Hahah, nice, and that DBOBE bobblehead seems awfully judgemental about your discovery...

I like the bobbleheads in game but I'd never put them on my real cars dash.
Thinking about it I don't think I've been to any engineer bases in both day & night cycles although I've only visited six so far.

Exactly. I would understand it if it were planets orbiting the star directly (Some of them are) but I had similar luck with bases on satellites of other planets and that one doesn't make sense to me.

Yea, it's just a bad luck or a coincidence between orbit periods. But all of them? Heh...

The "dark side" of the moon is not "dark" that is a misnomer, it is just always facing away from the earth.

If the moons that the engineers have their bases on are tidally-locked to their parent planet then they will have the same situation as our moon, their day is (approximately) equal in length to their orbital period. The only way a moon can have a perpetually dark hemisphere is for it's rotation period to exactly match it's orbital period but in the opposite direction and I believe that gravitationally that is not possible (plus it would need to take into account the parent planet's orbital period).

As a matter of interest, the "dark" (far) side of the moon actually is brighter than the side which faces us. This image shows that quite clearly:
