CQC Have FD given up on CQC?

Been trying to get a game going (without joining and coordinating through Disqord) and it seems completely dead.
Why cant we search for "any" game, why divide the matchmaking between the gamemodes when its so few playing?

And why no bots? Even stupid bad bots would at least let us play.

Ive seen no news or comments on this, have FD abandoned CQC or anyone know if there is any plan for it later on?

1.5/2.0 introduced the Imp Fighter
2.1 and 2.2 both had bugfixes for bits of CQC (and new bugs to be fixed in the point releases...)

So I don't think they've completely given up on it, but a new feature or two would be nice. Even just reducing Deathmatch minimum numbers to 2...

Even if you don't actually co-ordinate through discord it does at least show you if other people are playing. You could join and just read the conversations if you preferred.

Given up or moved on to things people are interested in...same thing, really

Don't get me wrong, I'd love for a CQC refresh. I think it could be a really fun Arena game, and it is, but it suffers from low participation and some matchmaking issues.

I don't think that they've given up on the feature, but as you said yourself, not many are playing it and it's almost impossible to get into matches. Why should FDev then assign that many resources to fix, something that people have little interest in playing?

It's a vicious cycle really, people don't play because they don't feel like it is polished/deep/engaging etc, hence Fdev will not allocate the resources nessacery to make it so, which means that players won't play it.. and so the cycle continues.

Having it be its own seperate thing in the main menu and not something that can be joined from stations or somewhere, inside the game proper, doesn't really do it any favors either. In my humble opinion.

I think the appropriate term is "". The lack of ANY kind of lobby features and bots, means that CQC was dead at birth.

I think it was thought up during the very first "griefing" rages in the dangerous discussion forum right after official release. FD thought that PvPers would flock to such a perfect arena style PvP setting, and leave Open mode for more considerate flying. But as we all know (apart from FD), few true PvPers enjoy a fight on equal footing. It's all about having the advantage.

The CQC game is solid in itself , but the complete lack of any kind of front end leaves it fundamentally broken.

OK, I´v never even tried CQC, so just a quick question: Is it supposed to work or is it just broken and no one is able to play?

I don't think the devs gave up on CQC, just the player community gave up on it.
Once the "oooh shiny thing" wore off I think people got tired of being matched up with lvl 45 ace pilots who kicked ther before they'd even got their initial bearings. It rapidly became like being sniped at the spawn point in COD or similar games....
Plus they've made so many pew-pew changes to the main game that Open mode is now essentially just one big CQC if you try to do a CG ;-)

Yeah, that's a big problem: in the beginning you are totally slaughtered.
I have 300-400 kills now and yesterday was the first time I really enjoyed myself (and was not cursing all the time :x , but had lots of fun)
But other players got 10 to 100 times more kills than that and you don't stand a chance against them.

You do actually :) Maybe it will take some practise to go head to head with the more experienced players but you can still pick them off when they are in a duel with each other. Having the weapon power up will also increase your chances considerably :)

At the start though, I admit, it can be terribly frustrating but if you join the discord, you'll find that most of the high ranked players don't really enjoy clubbing the new players and DO often leave them alone quite a lot.

Undeniably there are some absolutely amazing high level players and it's certainly a challenge to get them, let alone beat them in a match but that's where the fun is, for me at least! You just have to persevere and eventually you'll get good enough to pose them a, little, bit of a challenge, well that's my plan anyway :)
Also i can vouch for what Scoopy says, you'd be surprised how most, if not all, of those really good players purposely don't go after lower level and new players, they usually just seem to go after me! hahahahaha

i've almost completely given up on CQC, sat in the lobby quite a few times waiting for a matchmaking connection for deathmatches... after 10 mins or so I just close it down and go back to playing ED... which is frustrating when you want a break from exploring but are too far out to be able to just enjoy some combat action

There is definitely a timezone black hole for CQC which is a real shame.

Looking at the discord channel chat history, you posted your message here about half an hour after everybody in the discord channel stopped playing. :( There had been continual Death Match games going for at least the thirteen hours prior to that though it was a Saturday which gets games for longer.

There are a couple of people on the discord channel who are in the timezone gap and they have to rely on insomniac players from other locations to get their games. It seems to be slowly getting better but it must be very frustrating for you guys.
