Text and menu readability suck in VR on the DK2. It's better, but not perfect on the Vive and probably CV1.

Layers allow parts of the game (such as UI) to be rendered in 4 or even 8k and then downsampled to native VR panel size. This gives a large boost in readability with small cost in terms of performance. The rest of the game (3D world etc.) will continue to be rendered at native resolution.

Are Frontier planning to support this feature?

I thought Chuck Norris was able to render the whole game at 32k resolution without any issues?

I have full confidence that they are fully aware of such a simple module like the layer technique in the VR compositor.
I mean, its an easy way to make text based components sharp in the game. And for a title like ED, where small text is everywhere,
its really a must.

So there is just no way they could miss that, when they finally start supporting a modern directmode runtime soon.

I believe HUD layers weren't implemented in v0.5, meaning any implementation is waiting on their collaboration with Oculus to make the more recent SDKs work. I'd hope they'll investigate this after the up-to-date SDK is implemented.

Huh, this makes no logical sense to me, even if you render them at super resolutions and then downscale it being text it would end up looking exactly the same? maybe with a bit less aliasing issue? so it is an aliasing issue?

Won't vive solve this problem? I seem to recall people saying vive's higher resolution had no problems with such, maybe its just a DK2 thing?

Can you remove the glance to bring up menus on each side and assign a button on a HOTAS instead?

I may have missed this one before......?

Nosh

Solution, Pull back your head as much as you can, reset rift, seat normal. been closer will make things more readable.
Maybe take of cockpit/ dashboards effects and Blur, it make things better.

That's all I do as well. Never really had a problem reading the text in game on my DK2, its not perfect granted but it doesn't really pose much of a problem for me.
