Newcomer / Intro Have I been ripped off?

Heard quite a few people raving about this game, so I paid my money and downloaded it. All I have got from the download is the combat tutorial. Have I been ripped off?

You should be able to install the main game as well. There are two options on the launcher, combat tuorials, and beneath that Elite Dangerous which is the main game.

thats how i got the game, when it launched the other day the option to download the full game appeared under the combat demo option in the launcher.

Don't know about being patient. I paid my money 2 days ago. How long am I supposed to wait before I can play the game? There is no option on the demo launcher to download the full game, so I have now deleted the demo and asked Frontier to refund my money. I'm out.

You must have a really stressfull life if you cannot either workout how to download the game, login and press the play button. I suspect you just didn't download it.

I have plenty of patience to play a game that actually works. I've been playing Eve for sometime now, but still consider myself a relative noobie, but that hasn't put me off from continuing to play it. As you don't know me your comment can only, at best, be considered as a personal insult. Reading other recent threads on this forum, it would appear that quite a few other people are having problems with the latest download and launcher, but at least they have been able to play the game prior to these problems so know what they have to look forward to. I don't have that luxury, not having had the ability to actually play the game. It's not a question of patience, it's about paying money for a product that hasn't been delivered.

And as far Kramator's sarcastic comments, if the option to download the game is greyed out and not clickable, how would he suggest I 'work out how to download the game'.

For a newcomer who was very much looking forward to playing this game, having played the original back in the '80s, your comments have been less than helpful.

You should have two big red buttons in your demo launcher. Click the button on the right (login). After that you should have two options near the play button. That's it.

Sorry for my english :)

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems Perropantis :( I believe Frontier Developments have been having some issues with purchase authorizations at the moment (quite possibly to do with the large amount of activity on their sales server at the moment). A number of other people have been having similar problems.

I can assure you that you have not been ripped off. Have you posted your issue in the Elite Dangerous Support forum, and/or accessed the official customer support website and created a ticket with your problem?

If not those two are the first things you should do. When posting in the support forum, aim the post at either Michael Brookes or Ashley Barley. Michael Brooks is the Executive Producer, he is very active on the forums and often dips in on things like this personally to give some advice or news from the inside about the situation. Ashley Barley is in Customer Services forum division and if the post is directed at him he will almost certainly come and give you some advice.

Again I'm really sorry this problem has given you a sour taste in the mouth. I agree it isn't the best first impression. It is a very unfortunate technical issue that is being addressed as quickly as it is causing problems. All I can say is that it is an extremely hectic time at the moment for FD and the developers, they are dealing with a million and one things at the moment surrounding launch, this included. The best thing you can do is to be vocal about your problem to the right avenues and be assured that it will be solved as quickly as is feasible considering the workload happening right now, it should not be the case that once purchasing the game you are not able to download it straight away.

On a side note I will humbly request you refrain from any knee jerky reactions about refunds, unless you're set on that decision. For the sole reason that Elite Dangerous is a damn fun game to play and considering you've been an EVE player for a while I'm fairly certain you'll really enjoy this little gem, throwing this away based on this annoying hickup would be a shame. I hope it gets sorted for you promptly. Maybe I'll see you out in the galaxy one day.

Good luck mate.

Thank you Epicurean Dream for your more considered and helpful response. Yes I have already raised a ticket directly with the support team, and I will await their response before making a final decision about this game.

Sorry to hear you problems mate . FD will sort it for you. I urge you to wait a bit before hitting the hatchet because despite the moaning here sometimes the game is great especially if your an eve player.

One thing I found was that I had an older version of the launcher.A new version was launched on the 9th December (typical as I downloaded the previous version on the 8th lol!) The new version allowed me to download, infact it had a completely different initial screen.

Antagonistic thread titles attract antagonistis replies - which helps no-one.

You could:
1) start your threads with a better thought out header
2) ask a moderator to amend your thread title

either would help you have a better experience, and get you the help you might need to get playing

Does your launcher look like this?

No offense Perropantis, but do you know how this sounds to us who have been here through beta, gamma, numerous wipes and issues?
You didn't opened a ticket, at least you didn't metion that. You came on forums, told us you paid 2 days ago and nothing happened. Well I've waited 30 years for this game and I'm more than happy about it. So Zargor meant no offense but he was right. Elite is all about patience. No hurry, no pressure, no race, just a sandbox where you can let your imagination run wild...

You mentioned later that you opened a ticket and will wait for their response. But the thread name and first post give you reactions that are not... constructive.

The Beeb version?

Original Elite emulator. :) Was free for download on Elite store, not sure if it's still there.
