Have I missed something?

Well met commanders!

OK, so had my eye on the Fer de Lance since it was released, being an old timer I remember it from the original game and had my rose tinted spectacles firmly placed. Bought one last week and was rather underwhelmed by it. Just didn't feel, I dunno, special. Currently have an Asp and a Clipper which I bonded with, also loved my viper but the FDL just left me feeling a bit flat. Wanted to avoid buying a Python as everyone seems to do that but have finally succumbed. Now I have mixed feelings, the Python is a great ship and I do feel some connection, have named him "Grendel". But I still so want to like the FDL. I think my main problems were poor range and that I never quite got the weapon load-out right. I'm an OK pilot and didn't have any issues with scoring hits - having a Viper has taught me to fly with my nose up . Just never felt the love I guess...

The RPer in me will certainly buy one again at some point but for now I'll have to follow the herd. Am I missing something?

I'm the exact opposite to you. Sold my Python after a week, as I found combat in a narcoleptic space-cow just wasn't any fun, and it felt like turning round took four days to do. I'm loving the Ferdy so far, seems to melt everything very quickly and easily. I'm using 4 gimballed pulse, and alternating betwen a Class 3 pulse/Class 4 cannon for the main mount.

I had an odd experience with the FDL - when I tried it in Beta, I wasn't too impressed. Think I was flying a Python in the ordinary game at the time. When I eventually switched back to the 'Lance, I felt completely different about it, really love it.

Though I have picked up a horrible tendency to smack it into ring particles. :)

It does take a considerable amount of experimentation to get a good working equipment loadout for it in my experience; I'm constantly thinking "oh, but what if?" and then hightailing it back to the Founders World to try new setups.

OK, so got the day off work and have bought the FDL again. Love the Python but determined to make the FDL work :) Off into the black to hunt some villains!
