Have I won after 4 days?

So, I'm an old gamer, played first and second Elite, so I knew what to do and what to look for.

Today I've found a route with 20% profit on a VERY expensive commodity.
Obviously, I won't say where, but it's one of the starting zones. Two systems, 6Ly away, able to jump with almost any ship. Bases being about 50ls from the star, so REALLY short route.

Thing is, if I want to take more time, I can use alternative route but the base is over 100kLs from the sun.
Short, less time consuming route gives my 44 tons Cobra about 60K for a ~8 minute trip. Longer one makes it about 90K but takes twice as long, still less than 15 minutes.

From what I saw on different calculators this is by far on of the best credit per hour routes in game. In 250 cargo ship it's almost half a milion in 10 minutes...

I mean, I'm happy I found it...but... all that's left now is just grinding ridiculous numbers of credits, and that makes me kinda sad.

What would you do in that case? Ignore it?

You're route isn't unusual for those who seek routes apart from the publicly sourced trading tools so I wouldn't feel bad about it. I'm very stringent on the timing of my routes and calculating profits and I'm currently running an Imperial Clipper at ...

216 Tons, 10.5 minute round trip, 553,608(profit)

... and it doesn't go down in profit no matter how many times I run it because it's not near the populated systems nor are the systems on the tools. That's the avg time for a round trip for me over 10 round trips. The profit includes fuel deduction as well.

There are rewards for spending the time searching for your own route.

The thing I'm impressed about is that you found a good route so close to the central mass. If a trading system has more than 100 ships per 24hr period, I move on. Good job commander!

*edit corrected 25hr to 24hr period

Well, that works out as 10,227 c/t/hr. that's good, but it's not star shattering. If your quest is to find the greatest trade route, you'll find better eventually (I had a 12,000 c/t/hr for a bit, but it dried out.)

If your quest is to trade, it's a great start.

If you want to do something else, then it's just a stepping stone to help you afford it.

....find something else to do other than grind credits. Use your imagination, this is the number one answer I read here, so I pass it to you, sir. Enjoy.
(personally don't think it replaces good old fashioned game features, but what do I know?)

Use it to gain the funds you need when you need it. Otherwise go and search out some adventure. That Cobra of yours can be fitted out to have a serious amount of fun. Good luck out there.

I had a similar setup located albeit not quite as cozy - but the bulletin boards kept throwing requests to go kill pirates for decent cash too.. extremely hard to pass those up all the time.

Not really. There's still system exploration (which is somewhat mind numbingly boring at present) and combat to consider. There are also better routes available, once you start exploring. I'd use the one you have now to kit yourself out in a decent Cobra or Asp, then start exploring a bit.

Just remember to save enough to cover the insurance in case something happens, and leave yourself a stake for trading, etc... Personally, I ran my Cobra until I'd saved up 10 million, then bought the Asp, parked the Cobra, and started working on kitting out the Asp. The extra 3+ million let me upgrade a couple of things, put aside my insurance, and gave me plenty to start working trade routes.
