Have Missions Changed?

I noticed one last night on checking the board for wing combat missions, and it was to deliver some normal crap for roughly normal cash to somewhere 60ly away instead of a neighbor. Didn't really think much about it at the time until I read your thread though Mitch. Iirc the only difference was that it offered high rep with high cash which stuck out a bit. Will be interesting to see if others noticed too.

Have they finally fixed the sub-par rewards for the Haulage Industry? That's one of the reasons why I've not played for months now.

I don't know, I was offered 10,000 credits to haul 2 Palladium 160+ LYs today. It was a follow up mission but I politely declined. I have been getting some large offers for some but I used to get the same for close ones.

Not getting my hopes up just yet; this is normal after Thargsday.
Quoting myself... a brief look shows no such missions on nearest board... so I suspect this wasn't an observation from right now, rather it was closer to the weekly tock, where those missions can occur on either a time-based schedule, or a # of board generation cycle (Not sure which one it is)

uh, the return of the longer-distanc-missions?

i usually only see one every 3-5 weeks.

ah wait. it's thursday, after the weekly tick, and all kind of rare missions (also those to colonia) are more often on thursdays for unknown reasons...

I'm pretty convinced there must be some sort of internal "count" or exponential dropooff tracker for (some?) mission types so the boards doesn't get flooded with the same type of mission, though it's still possible. After the Thargsday tock, that "count" for (maybe) a long-range mission template variant gets reset. After that, after repeated board generation, the density of these long range missions drops off over the next few hours, until eventually it disappears.

I can only speculate whether it's a global tracker, or per-system or whatever.... can't even be sure if the current setup is intentional or not. Maybe I could do 30 long-range VIP tourist missions in the hopes of summoning a wild @Dominic Corner who might know what goes on here, but nonetheless, it's an interesting thing.

I though they'd all usually vanished hours ago by now (restart was 14 hours ago). I'm not seeing any, other than m/s disable - which I think can always be further away.

Next time, OP, pics pls. And the time you see 'em :)

Fact, my original post was at 15:56 so that was right after I had seen it for the second time so I guess the first time would have been about 20 minutes before that. Me and the forum don't work well with pics.

actually the vanishing can take several hours, depending on how many missions that faction displays et. al. you can watch it more closely with state-depending missions after state has ended.

Well yeah, I just thought 'several' was closer to 6 than 14, but I don't watch that close 🤷‍♀️

I just checked the board and everything is back to normal. Strange that in 5 years I've never seen it before in my home system. Learn something new every 5 years I suppose.

Stuff like this happens to me all the time. Took me 5 years or so to learn that targeting a docked NPC then asking for Docking permission makes the NPC leave the pad.
Loads of things like that keep popping up after so much time :)

OP mentions it being a chain mission. This is the only evidence I've seen of this, but we know chain missions "stick"; perhaps whatever template or properties that chain mission gets might also stick, and so if the chain mission is generated in that subdue, and is a "long range" template which goes unaccepted... maybe those properties persist?

Dunno, this is baseless speculation. What system was this in @Mitch Brewer ?

I checked missions last night. I'm allied with every faction. Highest payout was just over 2mil and a lot of them were over 100kls away. No longer worth it imho.
