I think it would be cool if we could transport in supplies and materials and we could build our own space stations or based on planets. I wonder how it would work?

It wouldn't. This isn't exactly EVE, and evidently, it would be extremely half-baked and bare-bones.
I think that there are people who really would get out much more of the game with player owned content. I don't care EVE or not EVE. It's just a big motivatior for some people. And I think this group of players is pretty big. The thing is that players like me and the OP want more meaningful gameplay. This would add a lot to that.
The Galaxy is exactly not ours. We have no real impact on anything at all. Our gameplay hardly has any impact ingame. It just drives "maybe" a little bit an external storyline which is absolutely disconnected to the rest of the game. You totally can't change anything. You own nothing, your gameplay is void.

That's simply not true. Go ask the AEDC, or any of the other BGS groups, what impact players have on the game.
