D
This thread took an unexpected turn, but I still love you all.

Nostalgia! The first 1 GB HDD I bought cost me about 100 GBP.

LOL - I actually have a working 5MB external IBM hard drive that was the first available hard drive expansion unit available for the original IBM PC.

Retail price?

How about $6500

I could not think that the price per MB can reach of such summits

:)

I got the first 10Mb one for IBM xt it's a brick compared to today's stuff.

I work for an EPoS support company. One of our clients use an old system that initially was fitted with 40GB drives (and the software image was created with this in mind). Later the systems had 80GB drives. The image works on these systems as well. However, fit a 160GB drive and all sorts of problems happen. Fortunately we are still able to get these drives, but it will be interesting to see what happens when the supply dries up.

Virtualise the crap out of the host system? Apart from getting the client in correct working order, finding a virtualisation environment that can still do bronze age will quickly become cheaper than trying to source New Old Antiques.
