I was curious to know if many people had purchased new hardware specifically because of Elite Dangerous even at this early stage.

Such gaming events can increase the purchase of related peripherals such as HOTAS and TrackIR or cause people to entirely upgrade their systems.

Yep. I bought a new PC. Everything but a new monitor (and I'll swap that when funds allow). HOTAS on order too. :)

Was a push to build my self a new comp, to go for better hardware and build my self a rig. "Mid" range gamer rig but Im crossing my fingers for old rule stating that space simulations have lower hardware need than FPS made at same time (simulating lots of empty space is great :D ). Sticking to my old monitor but will buy OR once it is out :). Most likely will do some DIY pedals and some DIY small keyboard for left hand. Sticking to mouse.
My only concern being GPU needs for OR, looks like HD7790 wont be enough :(

Can't make multiple choices in the poll ;)

New GPU
New HOTAS
New TrackIR and DelanClip

I'm expecting to get new motherboard, CPU, RAM and SSD before release.

not bought anything yet as my current gaming system blows away ED's minimum specifications but i do intend to buy a HOTAS at some point and I'm also leaning towards an oculus rift once CV1 is released.

I built a new PC to replace my old one, now my daughter's.

I also built one for my son who pledged to premium beta level.

Problem is, I'd never been interested in PC games until I'd built these PCs. Whilst it's successfully moved my son from X-Box to PC it's encouraged me to investigate PC games to the point where I'm now losing interest in Elite. Having played Alpha 1, then skipped 2 and 3, I'm hoping Alpha 4 will reignite my interest in Elite.

But whatever the outcome I have to give credit to Elite for getting me in to PC gaming and all the fun I've had whilst waiting for Elite.

New everything for me and worth every cent (about 200,000 so far). The only thing I wish I hadn't bought was TrackIR pro because the pro clip doesn't fit on my Corsair headphones. The basic clip works just fine though and TrackIR is absolutely brilliant. I'm sure I'll be getting the OR or something similar in the future.
The best value for money product I bought was VoiceAttack. :D

My hardware choices over the new few months (and possibly years) will be driven by VR I expect. I'm hoping my current rig will scrape by for the Rift DK2 and then I will build a new one for Rift CV1.

I certainly plan to play ED using those, but I'd have bought them anyway, for whatever comes out with support for VR.

Despite the hardware Hysteria around these forums my 6 year old rig runs the Elite Dangerous fine. Phenom II 940 @ 3ghz and Radeon 5870 1Gb DDR5 and of course my Saitek X52pro... Happy Days :)

bought ; new pc , x52pro , true surround sound headset. and wireless receiver for Xbox controller.
am still looking for a sports car seat (you know why).
and the occulus is sure to come. (hopefully not to sugar coated)
total cost including Alpha =(ouch)

Bought a processor, motherboard, ram and the power supply. Not only for ED, I had to update anyway. In a few months I'm going to buy a graphics card (Maxwell second generation ?) and a SATA III SSD. This time for ED.

Hardware for Elite Dangerous and GPU advice

I've been playing the Alpha 1.1 on my existing XSPC RS360 watercooled i7 920 D0 Quadcore CPU and MSI Lightening R6970 GPU, 12 Gig DDR3. For controls I'm using a XBox 360 controller which seems to work, but is over responsive.

I'm running at FullHD res with graphics set to max, no issues, but been tempted at the possibility of either second R6970 GPU but been having trouble finding waterblocks, so the other option I'm considering is a MSI Lightening R7970 and a new waterblock to cool it.

Any advice on what will work better with E: D nVidia or AMD? my budget stretched to either AMD R9 280X or NVidia 680 GTX, in 6 months time I'll get another for CF or SLI.

I expecting final game, even Beta will put more strain on GPU, I'm really hoping I won't need to upgrade my CPU due to the unnecessary extra expense that entails, such as new motherboard and memory!
