have you ever been happy to be a little short for credits

Today i finally got what i thought was enough for my conda. So i go to my home station and go to buy it and see that i am 3k credits short. now i am tired as hell and had to sleep before work, the good old night shift. adn thought for a bit. hey i should save bit more before i get this because i know my luck ill get it and take it out for a test and someone will blow the up and it will be gone as fast as i got it. anyone else have a moment like that where being a little short saved you a major grind

Very sensible - I approve [up] Don't fly without a rebuy

Plus you will want to upgrade lots, so you really want quite a pot of cash before you buy (though I guess you can keep your current ship to make the CR for upgrades once you know what you want)

i have some guns i can move over and some other things but you are right. i do plan on keeping that python its pretty tricked out and med landing pads are great. the spears head has taken me long and far and won many a fight so it will be my money maker till i can get that conda ready for a long flight into the nothing

Spannungsbogen: The self-imposed delay between desire for a thing and reaching out to grab that thing generates a positive suspense and tension.

I purposely keep my bank balance low, unless I'm saving for something (like the Corvette), because it makes the game far more interesting than having a million rebuys.

that would be my thing i am 3k short of buying the ship i wont have a bunch of rebuys but id like to have the money for at least one

Yeah, I always keep atleast one rebuy, or switch out to a smaller ship. But I do purposely keep my balance low.

But right now I'm working towards unlocking and saving for a Corvette, so I have around 100~mil credits.

Never done that as I always have enough for rebuys but it was a very sensible move on your part. I have just picked up my first Anaconda, only ever flew ships up to python and I wasn't prepared AT ALL for how different it was to get out of the station. I wrote two off just getting it out of the showroom and then another at Jameson's plus my freshly hired fighter pilot. :D

Rule of thumb, don't buy what you can't afford, you're setting yourself for a fall.

I bought an Anaconda way too early, it was the first time piloting a big and had issues taking off, several times, which quickly led me to believe that all my hard work could disappear in a ball of fire (I had put everything I had into it).

I sold it, re-bought a Python, and never looked back.

No issues w/ CR or landings/take-offs now, but it was a lesson learned.

I was in much the same situation, except that I didn't sell the Conda. I was very, very careful for quite a while. Even so, I came close to getting blown up trying to get out of the station a couple of times. Nervous times.

Next time I'd probably leave it a bit longer before buying the Conda. I massively underestimated how much it was going to cost to make it usable.

Luckily, mine is fitted out for exploration so rebuy is only 7mcr or so and these days you can make that back in an afternoon scanning terraformable water worlds.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Still, there's a certain thrill in flying a ship you know you can't rebuy. :) It makes even simple cargo runs edge-of-your-seat affairs.

Is this a 'budget' conda or an 'A spec' conda? I went for a budget conda then realized I had a long way to go before I could A spec it and stuck it in the garage until I could afford all the upgrades.

I did that with the iClip I got during the Coronation CG. With the tier reward and some good discount hunting I was able to afford to buy 3/4 Imperial rides but didn't outfit any of them till way later.

I never buy a ship unless I have enough credits to fully A rate it and have at least two rebuys. This is hard for me to do, but I stick to my rules, even though I love buying a new ship. I am almost at the imperial rank of Duke and want to try the I Cutter, but I am about 500 mil. short of my goal. With my rules, it looks like I will not be flying a cutter for a very long time. [blah]

You will probably need around 800mil to fit her out, then the engineer upgrades, could be a while.:p

For a fully A mod G5 Cutter, probably right at a billion CR. My Corvette A G5 is 3/4 billion and that's w/ discounted modules and ship. If you use full price 100 mill+ more.

But it is as they say, if have to ask how much it is, you can't afford it.

yeah i bought it and went to solo to fly around for a bit then put it back and went back to credit grinding. i mean i could move everything from the python but no reason to do that when i plan on keeping the python as is. that med landing pad is good

Nope.

Since I'm very defensive in approach to such situations. I have developed (un)healthy habit of "double and a half" reserves while playing RTS games while in high school. Say, if mission said I needed 5 tanks for an assault I "double and a half" it. So I just build 2 more and half of this (2 more) and attack with 12 units. Many times game balance proved me that when mission says 5 is enough it actually requires 8 to fulfill all objectives (with bonus ones).

So, in ED, if the ship I'm about to buy costs 50M I'll build my credits reserves to at least 80M (base minimum), where 100M will be safe margin and 120M be optimal and not gimping myself. True - it may take some time to acquire said money reserves but when I finally get desired ship I can start working with it (outfitting) right away. I don't need to rebuild my reserves just to afford certain PP of FSD. All in all I will need to farm money for future purchases so I choose to do it beforehand.

In short - I'm not going shopping unprepared.

As with any other ship, a stock conda is horrible. Never buy a ship, particularly not a big pricy one, if you can barely afford the hull - it'll end in tears.
