Have You Ever Considered...

... that the problems with Elite are actually problems with you?

I'm not talking about the bugs - bugs happen and bugs get fixed.

I'm talking about the laundry list of complaints that always seem to crop up, like:

Other People Are Making Too Many Credits

I'm Not Making Enough Credits

Someone Else Has That Ship and I Don't.

Some Bit of Future Content Has Not Been Implemented Yet.

This System or This Method of Making Rank/Credits/Influencing the BGS is an "Exploit"

How many of these so-called problems are not Elite problems, but You Problems?

Worrying about what someone else is doing? Really?
Worrying about how someone else is doing it? Really?
Trying to be the Single-Handed Champion of the Galaxy in the Name of Your Favorite NPC/Faction? Really?

Could it be you're simply expecting too much from a game that was not built to cater to those particular expectations?

From what I can gather, and do forgive me, I'm not an '84 - I was busy studying martial arts and chasing skirts in 1984, not playing PC games - but Elite does not seem to be a Hero-of-the-Galaxy, CEO-of-a-Faction, Administrator-of-the-Year, micromanaging game. It seems to be a singular spaceship pilot game, with little or no real regard for anyone else who might be flying around, so long as they're not shooting at you.

Which means, unless someone else IS shooting at you, what they're doing really isn't anything to be concerned about - you have 99 problems, and someone else isn't one.

Or am I just old, and can't grasp the concept of minding everybody else's business but my own? I guess that's MY problem.
