Have you gone from console to PC?

Considering (so far as I know) there's no way to carry over your commander from consoles to PC, are you still able to use the same commander name again? or will that commander forever be stuck in console purgatory?

Also curious what people like most about playing elite on PC vs console or do they miss the console for some reason?

Never owned a console, well, except for the Intellivision.
My lame pc has as normal. Keyboard and mouse.
Mine has a Razer Tartarus game pad, X-52 pro hotas with pro flight rudder pedals, and an ancient logitech console grip for the srv.
All connected at the same time working flawlessly.
Shamelessly it works for me.
What was the question?

I have two accounts, PC and XBOX with the same CMDR name.

You just need two different e-mail addresses.

I play mostly on XBOX because our squadron is mainly on XBOX... but since I travel a lot for work reasons, I have a gaming notebook with ED and I have decided to try to enjoy the game as much as possible without engineering my ships. When I am at home, my daughter plays on PC as well.

I have two ED accounts these days. A Xbox one and a PC one. Both are separate from each other, apart from some similarities in naming.

The Xbox account has had a lot of time invested into it, in terms of progression, it's as far as it can go. Somewhere in the region of 20 ships for any occasion, all engineered to the max for their roles. Elite NPC pilot, and so on.

The PC account has a healthy balance, i think 4 or 5 ships, and is more for a casual potter about than hardcore ED'ing. I did try a custom HUD colour, but am so accustomed to the default, ended up leaving it at that. Just using a XB360 game pad and enjoying the back to basics experience of it all. Have elite in trade so far.

Each platform has it's own advantages, clearly the PC has the edge in terms of customisation, hardware and peripherals. But, this is also a strong point of the console blends. Everyone is restricted to a similar baseline.

Yes. Speedcuffs on PS4 and PC.
Separate email address for each.(y)

Shame about all the skins I bought on PS4.🤷‍♀️

I see far more people/activity on PC than PS4.
I also like having EDMC and all the plug ins.
Still using the DS4, set up pretty much same as PS4, some functions not available though.

Graphics better, loading times better, more people.

I'm OneOldDuck on console (Jenny_Diver is my alt in ED and my wife in RDR). I'm "Old Duck" on PC, which is actually an upgrade to my name. I originally wanted OldDuck on PS4 but it was taken. Ironically I'm just a "young to average duck" here in ED, but I created my PS4 name back when I was playing Overwatch and Fortnite and COD with all the screaming bratty 12 year olds, so it seemed appropriate at the time. Like a broken clock, eventually the name will be accurate even here!

Best thing about ED on PC for me is the ability to customize my experience. We have vastly more in-game settings, and then there's the configuration files, and then there's the ability to mod the game on top of all that. It's allowed me to create a beautiful, stable, fast experience (ultra shadows, baby) that blows my terrible experience on PS4 out of the water.

And then there is VR, which is the BEST BEST BEST thing about ED on PC, but that probably is an entirely different topic ;)

One can transfer from any one device (pc to console, console to pc, console to console) one time and one time only by contacting Fdev. Your cmdr's name and total net worth (cr's) will transfer but none of your progress. Thus one will start at the very beginning, but have their total cr's available immediately.

I switched from ps4 to xbox but started from scratch with a few billion cr's. Later I switched from xbox to pc and because I had already transferred ONCE before. I got to keep my cmdr name but lost EVERYTHING else.

In addition, when I first switched to pc, it was via a Steam account. Not liking Steam and their constant downloading of crap that I didn't want which effected my extremely slow connection speed thus my ping rate. I bought a new copy from Fdev and switched from Steam to Fdev. The process allowed me to keep everything that I had acquired in the three months during my subscription to Steam.

.........

Really? Each commander name is supposed to be unique and forever locked to the first account that used it (you can't even move the name between accounts). So how would discoveries on your XBox account be differentiated from your PC account? I am really surprised if they are the exact same name.

Yes, I was surprised.
Never bothered to check any first discoveries though.

The difference I see is in the caps...I see both commanders with all hi-caps in game, but discoveries on PC are all low caps:

rebel yell 82nd

Whilst on console they are:

REBEL YELL 82ND

:geek:

I started on the Xbox during the GPP (Game Preview Program) sometime in 2015 and eventually switched to PC. My main PC account uses the same CMDR name and email address/Frontier account for both the Xbox and the PC. How that works I have no idea.

that is very odd as only one cmdr can have that EXACT name
or so i thought...………………...

Just remembered that both the CMDR names were the same until about a year ago. I asked FDev to change the PC CMDR name, although the email address is still the same for both Xbox and PC. I haven't checked the Xbox CMDR name, I doubt it would have changed but I did reset the account. I'll have to create a new character and see what name it gets.

AHHH the plot thickens :D...………………...

I did check my Xbox account and the name is set to the same as the PC name now, seems any name change is tied to the account that the email is connected to. Since I tied the PC CMDR to the Xbox account, I wonder if it would work the other way. I have 3 PC accounts, I'll create a new Xbox CMDR and tie it to one of the other PC accounts; it will be interesting to see if I can tie them together in the opposite direction.
