haven't got a reason to play

How I learned to love the bomb.

Yep .. its a bit like stockholm syndrome.

We are trapped, we have no say there is nothing else out there so we are stuck with what we have. So learn to love it.

I can perform every task that Major Kong (Slim Pickens) did, for real, except the steel breeze would have ripped me straight off The Bomb. :)

Lets see...

You don't like super cruise.
You don't like missions.
You don't like Mining.
You don't like trading.
You can't pew pew.

But you do like to sit on the pad in station.

Here's my custom made job, just for you.

You can be a security guard.
You can sit on the pad and watch for speeders. When you're done there- you can patrol the perimeter with the other security forces and maintain law and order.
All done in open. You get to meet other people and be free of the worries of getting killed... mostly.

See. All fixed.
Emergent and fun.

if this was a job in the game i would do it "you think you're above the law in my station? i am the law! lower ship speed and get ready to be scaned or be obliterated"

As ever, i highly recommend Amiga FE2, Andy J's FFED3D and Pioneer.

All are the absolute antidote to the supercruise grind - only fly manually when it's fun (slingshots, low passes etc.), otherwise click it on AP, sit back and switch to external view, watch the worlds go by. Maybe check your manifest, scanners, tweak your SweetFX cfg., whatever..

For the antidote to ED's submarines-in-syrup combat, FFE, especially Andy J's version, is second to none. Think Defender, in 3D, with 6DoF. 'Nuff said.

Might want to take an extended break and first discover a reason to use capitalization. It does tend to help.

Sounds like you just dont like space games

There are no security guards at stations, FD haven't coded any people into the game at all.
Yet.
Even in my current state of shock towards the plans in elite , they are going to add humans in the game , its just not in the game yet.

However is there going to be some crazy limitation that ruins the purpose of them? maybe , like maybe they can not be killed , maybe they only spawn for forced gameplay reasons rather than immersion , but they will be there one day

As a former bored player, I'll give you my two cent.

First of all, despite all the talk that the combat got harder, with a little practice, you'll adapt. Buy a maneuverable ship, go to low RES first, then to high ones, then to hazardous. I recommend a Vulture.

I know what you're talking about. I did all activities in this game and I find most of them boring, except bounty hunting, which is my sole occupation these days. At first, I didn't had enough patience with ED many flaws, and I abandoned the game. After a bunch of space sims and some disappointment, I still longed for ED, not knowing why. Now that I'm back, I know: because of what you like. You like to stay parked at stations because ED has an amazing presentation and once you learn to focus on that, every activity becomes "better".

I'm with the OP, once I got the ships I was yearning for my desire to play faltered. I'm hoping the upcoming alien stuff adds some interesting elements and not just a few combat zones. The last few weeks I'd boot up, think about what I was going to do, and then quit again and play something else. There was just no reason for me to do any of it.

If I wanted to race, I'd just play Forza.

Right now the only reason to do any of the existing elements is credits, and I have enough of those. At least the empire and fed should go to war. So that our fighting and our trading might mean something in the galactic landscape to come. Instead of just, here's some money, off you go.

You are not alone.

The game makes a terrible job on engaging the player to do stuff, even if you may think on something you want to do, everything happens so slowly and is so frustrating and unrewarding that just by thinking in it, you give up before you start.
