Having lotsa noobie trouble guys :/

Hello all

Man i new there would be a learning curve for this game as its a diff class of game play from what i usually play and its technical in 4 dimensions = 3 + time etc - but im strugglig.

For starters lets say I'm looking for something i gota pickup or cleanup in a unexplored system - well I jumped in ad eventually find unexplained signal sources etc but no matter how i try I cant get close to them or i get too close and over shoot them - end result being I never find said item lol.

The main problem I'm having is with the frame shift drive. I jump to a system star then while in frame shift im cruising fats through the said system looking for my station to dock and I either come out of fs to soon and cant find the thing on scanner or I get too close in fs and over shoot it.

Once u drop out of FS the targets you saw on your sensors suddenly dissapear unless your truly close to them.

Is there an easy way to jumping to systems and getting the right distance to a docking station in order to drop out of fs and jsut boost in on normal drive?

There must be some kind of "way" of doing it I'm just not catching on to...

Admitedly its only been a few hrs of play so far but I'm struggling with fs for sure.

The trick is to slow down the closer you get to your target so you don't overshoot or drop too early. Get to within 500-900km while going at a speed of less than 1000kmh to give yourself enough time to drop out. A sweet-spot is to keep the "time until target" at 00:06s. If you're feeling unsafe, 7 seconds is fine too. This way you'll have plenty of time to slow down and drop out on target.
Your ship has an indicator on the bottom left of your HUD showing you a distance and speed measurement. Get your speed and distance within the blue lines and then drop out, if you do it right you should be appearing within 10km of the station or outpost.

Same applies to signal sources, you fly close enough to it and drop out into it. Be sure you have the signal source targeted ("T" by default), same for stations.

There is a travel tutorial in the game.. did you play through that one? It is helpful with the issues I think you are having. If you have done that, it seems like you are just not slowing down in time to be at safe speed when you hit the correct distance for safe disengage from supercruise.

You have to adjust your speed as you are coming in on the target, think like a plane on descent for landing if you've ever been on one. Once you get within 999k km you can safely disengage and the FSD will drop you usually within 10k km of your target.

Also if you are doing stuff like hunting rebel transmissions or black boxes etc, you are looking for weak signal souces, not unidentified, unidentified is usually a competitor on those missions who will offer you more to betray the mission giver.

looks like you try to "seemlesly" get to your destination. that doesnt work. You enter supercruise get close enough and slow down to the threshhold given. Then when in the proximity (watch the left panel) and it says "safe to disengage" you need to get out of supercruise.

then you travel the last few kilometers to the station/beacon etc. in normal speed mode.

The best way to do this is head towards your chosen station is sc and when it says you are 6 or 7 secs away , quickly drop the throttle so that its in the middle of the blue area on the the throttle gauge . It will then automatically reduce the throttle the nearer you get . When you see the disengage sign , drop your throttle to zero and when your speed is less than 100 , hit your sc button to disengage .

use the blue bar on your throttle indicator - it is your 'recommended' speed setting - most of the time :D

Remember in order to drop out at an Unknown Signal source, or other target in SC, you need to be within the blue parameters on your 'target' indicator on the left hand panel of your main front screen - it takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get it you'll be SC in to your targets in no time at all.

With regards to SS (signal sources) sometimes the best thing to do is to get into SC, set your throttle to 0 and cruise along at 30.0 kms waiting for the signals to drop in on you. That way, as soon as you get one close up you will be ready to drop out of SC and into the signal source.

When you are flying towards something you have targeted in supercruise it will tell you how far away it is and how long it will take to get there at your current speed. You will automatically slow down the closer you get to it but not enough if your throttle is too high as you approach.
The important indicator is the time it says it will take to get there and the magic numbers are between 6 and 8 seconds. So keep the throttle at 100% until the time says about 10 secs then throttle back, and adjust the throttle until it says 7 or 8 seconds and keep it at that. If it gets down to 5 seconds then you WILL overshoot.
Once you get to under 1Mm from your destination it will say "safe disengage ready" and if you turn off supercruise then it will lock onto your target and drop you within a few km automatically.

Short and easy method for new players:

Bind a key to 50% throttle.

Supercruise towards the target. When the timer hits 10 seconds, press the 50% throttle button.

Profit.

You can fine tune your method later

(My personal method is: Set throttle increments to 16.7% in controls, cut to 50% when the timer hits 7-8 seconds, then increment the throttle once. That seems to give me the exact 6 second deceleration mark)

Best way to use USS's is to set throttle to zero in super cruise and wait for them to appear, when they do they will be within safe disengage range, all you then have to do is turn to face them and drop in.

If you put your throttle so that the indicator just begins to turn blue (the lower end of the blue zone), then you will never ever overshoot again. Another indicator is the ETA, which should stay around the 7 second mark. If you get to 6s ETA, you are riding it tight. At 5s ETA you will likely overshoot.

But yeah, beginning of blue zone, so that the horizontal throttle position line just turns blue. That's the easiest way. In fact you can pretty much always travel at that setting except for journeys longer than 500ls.

If you already go full throttle, the ETA is again the best indicator for when to slow down. Start reducing throttle before you hit 00:10s ETA time, then lower it to the beginning of the blue zone so you ride the 7s ETA until you can drop out.

If you already know you can't make it, just spiral in. You can bleed off quite a bit of excess speed that way.
