Having mutiple ships needs some love please

I know this has been discussed before however I would like to bring it up again.
I currently have 3 ships, 2 trading ships, 1 type 6 for outposts and a large type 7 for normal trading.
I also have a pimped Cobra for giggles and fun. however I am having to keep all ships pretty close so I can travel to each one when I feel like a change.

My vision for multiple ships was I could leave the ships where I needed and get some form of taxi service to transport me to them.

I know I can just get a cheap hauler and travel when needed to each ship but that takes time so I cant just switch to a bit of fighting with the cobra when I get bored pantless by the trading grind.

I feel a taxi service or something to transport me to my other ships even if it takes some time to get there would make multiple ships a much better option.

Your thoughts?

Ahh clones in certain stations with med centre. Or ability to transport inter-alia Star Trek - well it is a space game. Quite agree this pseudo realism can and should be tinkered with.

I am not one of those who gets pleasure sitting in front of the screen jumping and super-cruising for a couple of hours regardless of how the stars look. If I want to see that many stars I have an app and software I can use instantly :)

There was a thread last night where someone said devs were tinkering with the idea of a freight service but right now wasn't one of the top priorities

+1
some kind of interstellar transport system where you can pay to have your ship freighted to the current station or yourself shuttled back to whichever system your ship is at.
maybe even make it have a 1 day "real time" delay until your ship is transported the new station.

also:
you need to be able to transfer cargo from one ship to another in storage as long as cargo holds have room etc.

I just had a huge comedy of errors trying to complete a Navy non lethal weapon mission.
was in my Viper.
took the mission, located weapons with Slopeys tool and then took another mission to the system selling weapons with 2 cargo to transport.

accepted it all..then realised there was simply no way my Vipers jump range was getting me to the system...no way no how...
no worries I thought..off to my trusty Cobra; safely snuggled in its nest.
got there...unable to transfer ship without an empty cargo hold!!
so now stuck with cargo I cant complete mission for and unable to swap ships!
so launch again: abandon mission with a fine; dump cargo but get scanned in the process, another fine....dock again...swap ships
head off to buy weapons only to find no stock!!
head to another system a few jumps away...buy weapons...
head back to complete mission!!
cost me round about 6k!!!!

why cant I just swap cargo between ships in dock???

Then all I can say is: can't wait to get it implemented. It would definitely make life easier, especially when you move your trading and bounty hunting ship to new area.

Lol, me and a friend were just talking about this yesterday. Would be a great idea to be able to move your ships to another station when traveling. I have gone so far away from my sidewinder that is in my starting system, that it seems pointless to go back.

Agree. This is one area where a little break in emersion is waranted.

Doesnt even have to be immersion breaking

Call your ship and it arrives in 1hr for every 20LY or part thereoff and costs are variable per size so a lakon6 will cost 12000Cr a sidey 1200Cr

so 123LY away arrives in 7hrs

Reduce the time to 1 minute per ly and we're talking. It takes me 15 minutes to travel 150ly. So 2+ hours for a ship freighter is much closer to reality.

Now this is one request I can agree with.

Especially when you consider having to relocate for the various dynamic events occurring.

I'm considering flying to Empire space, docking at a station that sells both a hauler and Class A FSD for it, flying that back, selling it, getting another of my ships, repeat. That's kind of cumbersome.

I would like the ability to enter a station and select "Make this my home base". This would prompt with a "Would you like to transport your other ships to this location? Cost is 18,400 CR, transit time 18 hours"

Perhaps there would also be a 5% chance of a ship getting destroyed in transit - in which case you get presented the usual insurance screen, after which the replacement is place in your new home base.

Teleporting you to your ship makes more sense to me - you often want your fighter in a war zone and your trader in a safe zone somewhere completely different. And if you do wish to do some arms dealing in the war zone, you should have to get your ship there yourself at least once (half the fun is in crossing huge swathes of unsafe anarchy space to get somewhere important).

What I would like to see is a) a credit cost for this and b) a time limit per use (new tech, limited places on this experimental service, etc, etc). Once or twice a day for example.

And absolutely with some small chance of a royal c*ck-up (can't believe that word got moderated) which leaves you stranded somewhere completely different with no choice but to buy a new sidewinder and fight your way back to civilization (new story and mission arc?)

QE

If we're going to have ships being transported as freight, then presumably we'd occasionally see these mega freighters travelling through normal space.

One might deduce from this, that there was the potential for these ships to be attacked and acquire some rather valuable booty in the way of metals and parts?

Just a thought :)

This was discussed in the DDF forums a while ago now. There was a whole topic on multi-ship ownership and how it would work. The ability to "call you ships to you" was part of the plan if I remember correctly. There was a big discussion on how long it should take etc and the risks involved.

I'm sure it will get added in a future update.

It's something I'd like to see implemented. The transport of the ships could even be offered to commanders who have lost their ships and don't have the cr to pay insurance.

I thought it would be nice if your request to have your ship flown from one place to another was posted as a mission for other players to do. You get to set the CR reward and they get a chance to (sometimes) fly a different ship.

"Hey, fly this Type-6 from A -> B, you have 4 hours and the reward is [xx,xxx]CR"

But then I realised I hadn't really though it through properly :) Not least because _they_ then get stuck without a ship and would need someone else to go fetch their ship.

Lol - And what if they crash without the cash for insurance?

"Yeah... I KNOW it was an Anaconda... But the Sidwinder's a good ship"

:D
