Having so much fun in this game!

So, I'm a somewhat new player. I played for a while, a year or two ago and have recently returned. I brought a Mandalay from the store and headed straight out into the black for exobiology. I managed to get to Sag A find fleet carriers, sold my data, and made a few billion, then killed myself to return to the bubble. I have since gotten a fair amount of engineering unlocked, a heap of mats, made guardian shields, and FFD. All I can say is, what a great game! I’m back out in the black, because I have nearly spent my billions on new ships and upgrades. This time using the semicolon to scan the systems. I didn't know this was a thing on my first run, so I missed a heap of stuff. I’m finding all sorts of stuff, found an earth-like world, a system full of bacteria-star things, lol. Space is weird, right? Happy exploring CMDR!

Glad to have someone else discover the joy of Elite. I remember I originally picked up the game back in 2018 and bounced right off. Couldn't remember the exact reason why but I found my gaming in other places for a while. Then a little over a year ago I found myself craving space games again and picked up and beat Everspace 2, which was good, but after which I was left wanting more. So I not only dusted off Elite but also shelled out for a proper HOTAS setup and found myself hooked. I dunno if it's the fact that my tastes have changed or I was enjoying it more due to the crunchier controls I had in my hands. Bought Odyssey for the full experience, which was worth it in my opinion. Then around October of last year I bought a Quest 3 to get the VR experience too. It's rare that I skip a day of logging in now. Maybe I need help.

I haven't even tried ground missions yet. It seemed to get bad reviews for the whole Odyssey thing. But its something different. I can't say the colonisation thing does anything for me. The thought of trucking back and forward for hours on end sounds terribly boring, to be honest. But each to their own. Looking forward to finding out what new features they are bringing out this year. Maybe a new alien race that comes in fighting us and the Thargoids, that would be a fun twist.

Ground missions take finesse and you cannot just run in guns blazing when you're just getting started. Once you figure out the pattern of turning off the alarm first, you will find success. Remember to keep armed patrols outside your inner radar ring if you do not want to get scanned. Then once you get all your guns and suits upgraded, you probably won't even care about the alarm anymore. I had my frustrations with the arbitrariness of some of the aggro mechanics but now they are my oyster. I do admit FDev can still do a lot more for on-foot content but that is up to them at this point how to prioritize, as their next content drop appears focused on revamping how Squadrons (i.e. guilds) work.

I have been doing mostly ground missions and combat zones since the last CG finished. I'm new to it, been unlocking ground engineers and have a few weapons and suits in the process of upgrading. I am loving it! I am so impressed with all of it, i think they did an outstanding job creating it. I've heard at launch it was rough, but now Odyssey is an outstanding feature, and makes the Elite Dangerous experience more robust and immersive. I can't get enough!

The game is in a good spot at the moment. We had an entire year of positive developments.
They need to make colonization more accesible to new and single players after the beta.

To be honest from what I have seen from the outside of Colonisation and the number of single players with completed first stations reporting in various threads on the forums I am not convinced it needs to be altered for single player accessibility, as for new players definitely not there should be some activities that can't be undertaken immediately on starting a game.
