Haz Res now comes with fines and removal to prison for paying 300 credit fine?

At the CG, the last few days I've been gaining fines for NPC pirates running my path when firing. I then kill the same ship I got fined for, get nothing for that but end up in prison, for the 300 fine. Haz res now has fines and police? Is crime and punishment broken at the CG?

So if you are wanted in Open in a Haz Res, High Res, Res, Low Res or SC, I will shoot you. In fact, I did collect a 300 Cr. Bounty tonight on a player. I'm sure I'm not the only one though.

Just mind your trigger discipline an scan your targets before shooting.

If the CG is in anarchy, they won't get a bounty or a fine (in most cases - look for the lawless designation). If there is any kind of security, you will get a fine/bounty. For kills you get notoriety.

Here's a tip, if you accidentally shoot someone and get a fine, go to an anarchy system with an IF and pay off the fine and come back. You will not be wanted any more. If you accidentally take one shot at someone and they get killed by someone else, you will be credited with the kill and gain notoriety. So it's always a good idea to pull out and get cleaned up following stray shots.

HazRES at current CG.
I get scanned by a ship.
I assume it's a wanted ship.
I immediately start shooting before scanning.
no fines.

AFAIK fines should never send you to Gaol anyway.

I had no, nor gained any nonliterary and the ship that flew through the beams was a pirate anyway. I killed it. But I ended up in clink? Granted I'm new to the game in some eyes, but I thought I understood haz res to be, a hazardous place.

I think I have an idea what happened.
Going to CG HazRES to confirm it.

Twice I got a fine at haz rez. Once shot at a clean ship, a fine and sent to prison when paying it off. Second time that day, guess I killed someone, fine and notoriety of 1. Waited that out, sent to prison. LOL
It's all good.

Sounds like you hit the NPC pirates before you auto-scanned them. Make sure you see that a ship is Wanted before you shoot it, otherwise you get fined even if the NPC turns out to be a pirate.

Nope. You can hit them before the scan as long as they are 1. Wanted (whether you can see it or not), and 2. They must be targeted.

But the behaviour of the pirate NPC is to also gain something from an easy kill so they often swarm. I'm not so sure we should be dragged off to prison because NPC "bad boys" can't take a tickle from the big bright things. Considering I could rotate and kill the NPC seconds later, and it's a haz rez, I'm not sure it's a great way of doing things. Either change the behaviour of the NPC pirates, or have it be a given that if you have a wanted status in a haz res and are opportunistically swarming an in progress kill and get hit, then no foul.

Just had a 'naughty' session in the HazRES.
Sorry OP, it's all working 'as intended'.
I got 12,000 in fines, paid at Fozard, no issues, no Gaol.
The only way I managed to get a Bounty (other than outright murdering miners), was by clipping a miner who was already heavily under attack.
Pirates finished him off and because I clipped him, that counts as murder=bounty=Gaol.

Accidents happen. All I can suggest is double check for bounties before returning to station.
If you've picked any up, go straight to an Interstellar Factor and clear it.
If you've got Notoriety, you'll have to wait till that times out.

Good luck. (y)

Don't use beams when bounty farming. They always get you fines and bounties on yourself. Use pulse lasers and multi-cannons instead.

If you accidentally shoot an innocent ship, don't shoot it any more. It's always best to immediately turn around, run away and jump out of the RES, then jump back in again. If it dies because a pirate kills it while you're there, you'll get the blame. You can pay off the fine at the station. Nobody cares about them.

If you get a bounty on you, don't forget that if the cops scan you at the station, they'll kill you, so you have to use stealth tactics to get in. It's probably better to take a diversion to the Interstellar Factor to clean yourself before going back to the station.

As has been pointed out to you already HAZ RES does not mean anarchy - it just means no security / police presence. You can still get fines and bounties if you act like a dil. (*)

You don't get sent to prison unless you are clueless - pay off fines (don't "hand yourself in") - go to an interstellar factor to pay off bounties after your notoriety counts down to 0.

* - Sorry, it seems I've been talking to too many Aussies lately. ;)

Several patches ago, when they changed KWS behavior, they changed it so that if a ship is wanted you can fire on it without resolving the scan to verify their status. If I remember right, this was done to make playing in wings more fluid -- you can immediately help a wingmate out with a fight instead of having to watch them hammering (or getting hammered by) a target for 3 seconds before you can help.

It's a pretty safe bet that any ship scanning you and giving you a canned line about your cargo is going to be wanted.

Only wrinkle there is that the faction in control at Upaniklis is all over the neighborhood (so you're wanted there too). There's a safe large pad IF at Trimairusa (planetary); I'm not sure if there's a outpost any nearer.

Nope. You can hit them before the scan as long as they are 1. Wanted (whether you can see it or not), and 2. They must be targeted.

Okay, thanks for the update! I came back to the game after a long break and missed this rule change.

Don't agree with this. In my experience I have shot at many pirates, some even shooting at miners, then thought "Oh s***t I didn't scan him.
One time in a Haz mining spot I did that about ten times in a day. Every time I did it I became wanted and got a fine.
As someone said, fly to another affiliated system and pay the fine and get back to your dakka dakka.

Oops, didn't twig to TARGETED
Targeting shows they are wanted. Sorry.

Maybe CZs and CGs are differently handled.
