Haze around the Stars

Hi all, got a Rift (CV1) the other week and finally got around to properly getting Elite running with it (too busy in Assetto Corsa at the start!).

Overall I'm happy with the settings (VR Medium/High) I have, decent enough FPS with ASW on Auto, but there is one thing bugging me somewhat, when I'm close to the Host Star in Supercruise or floating about at the Nav Beacon I see this "Haze" of sorts around the Star, it has a few levels gradually decreasing in exposure the further out it goes. I don't see this when looking at the Monitor output so wondering if there's a setting I can adjust to either get rid of it or make it less intrusive?
Thanks.

Turn your environment (graphics) setting down a notch or two, that will remove haze, at least it does in stations, it may around stars too . . .

Hiya,

Unfortunately, it's one of the things common to the rift. colour banding and black smearing. to reduce the colour banding you describe, ASW needs to be off. it doesn't cure it completely but significantly reduces the problem. for me personally, i take the rough with the smooth and keep ASW on, it's the only area of the game that bugs me. i don't suffer the black smearing at all but the colour banding really bugged me. it was only apparent for me when ASW was enabled.

aahh ok cool thanks, I had heard of ASW Discrepancies in AC but hadn't thought it could relate to Elite as well, it's not a big problem by any means but it's just "there" a long with the blotchy black areas of the galaxy.
I'll happily accept these minor flaws for now, the immersion far outweighs the graphical aspect!

I noticed that bringing FX Quality setting to either LOW or OFF removes the haze in stations for me, did not check if it does the trick for stars. But also other animations are scaled down (ex: when jumping).

This is by far the best weapon you have. :)
Its 1st generation hardware, and there are... inadequacies.

The colour banding is something we're all aware of, sometimes painfully (open the Moon theme movie theatre in Oculus Video and look up - the sky is horrible.

There doesn't seem to be any actual reason for it - its not a display panel limitation and something is happening in software to create the colour banding. We're hoping for a fix by Oculus soon.
Pretty sure there's no real reason to suspect ED is at fault... when you're close to a star its kinda the worst-case scenario for the banding.

Yeah the banding is bad you will notice it a lot of places look around the star you are headed at in hyper it has banding terribly around it. I really hope they fix this as I find it the number one issue with this the other stuff I can live with.
