HDR on ps4?

Happy Friday
Gary/FD, is there any chance HDR will be implemented in the ps4 version (or any others for that matter)?

I just splashed on a new oled and altho it will look amazing anyway, am hoping hdr is used at some point.

Cheers

This is from the FAQ,

Will Elite Dangerous for PS4™ work on PS4™Pro?
Yes, we plan on supporting the PS4™Pro with Elite Dangerous.

Given the current trend the majority of games being released recently as containing full Pro Support, I would expect ED to take fully advantage of the Pro's architecture and capabilities which include HDR.

Only a month left now :D

Mike, HDR is supported on all the PS4 consoles. It is not a Pro only feature.

Happy Friday indeed, what glorious weather we have here on Earth in the UK.

I can't really add to what's in the FAQ other than we are always looking at ways to improve and optimise both the look and feel of ED.

If this weather keeps up I'm more concerned about how sweaty my stick is going to get!

i.e. "we've got it covered boys. It'll look as sharp as an ice-pick and feel as smooth as a baby's bottom"

I bet they will implement this, if not immediately, then eventually. It should be easy to do on the technical side of things. The artistic side (how does it look) will probably be the challenge for them. They must be careful not to turn ED into a JJ Abrams supernova of lens flares

disclaimer - as always, I'm speculating (should make this my sig)

Soon(tm) then, gotcha, nudge nudge ;) ;)

Only thing wrong with this good weather is the great unwashed on this bus! Headphones, check.
Noseplug, nope.

Wow, my new oled arrived over wknd, and elite looks un-frickin-believable on it. Oled is perfect for elite... black is black, colours are amazing, details I've not even seen on my plasma, and elite hasn't even got hdr in it yet. Even the orange HUD gets a new lease of life.

If anyone is thinking of going 4k ready for Scorpio or ps4pro/ps5, go get an hdr oled. Some c6s are prob still going 'cheap' at currys (the curve is not even noticeable to be honest when watching at eye level).

Gary, if you can soon please let slip that HDR is definitely coming for elite, I will possibly also need some new pants.

P.s. I would suggest you show all your demo stuff on some big oled panels at E3 if you can too :)

Had I been birn rich instead of good lookin', I'd would be playing ED on my Omni Theater. Oh well, a 50 inch flat screen will have to do.

I'm not intentionally playing devil's advocate here.

But...

I honestly can't see how my OLED could be improved by adding HDR. The benefit would be more immediate on regular LED panels for sure - but I just can't imagine a better image than the one I have right now. It's luverly!

It's not about a "better image" but about contrast (dark/bright and color-contrast) that resembles the real world much more accurately: You need a HDR-capable display (10 Bit panel, enough max. brightness) to show the difference.
The difference with the right (there are bad examples, too) HDR-content is mind-blowing regardless of the panel used in your TV being OLED or LCD.
Or the other way around: If you have an HDR-capable panel you never experienced it's full potential untill actually displaying HDR-content. A very good example is Amazon's "The Grand Tour" in HDR or "Horizon: Zero Dawn" on the PS4.

It can and it would be, in theory your OLED would benefit greatly as OLED should give you great contrast. HDR would be welcome for me, and the bonus is that ALL PS4's support it. On my Sony 4K TV HDR makes a massive difference. (HZD again, turning off HDR vs ON is massive difference seriously, people keep knocking both 4k and HDR because they don't use it, I was one of those people when I had my old 1080p plasma).

There is no reason if it can be supported NOT to implement HDR.
