CQC Head track or not head track?

Maybe I am just new to CQC.. but hell man ships are fast.. and if I turn my head-track on (track IR) I get disoriented easily, and also it's so hard to select/locking target..

Is that because CQC has buildings and rocks compared to usual pitch black emptiness in the normal game?

I've been thinkin to create another Track IR profile for cqc, maybe one with very very little movement like 10-15 degrees top left right..
Or maybe just go yolo n probably get used to after some times..

Those who have it usually swear by it. I don't have one, and I spend more time than I'd like "fighting the camera" when it decides to point in a different direction than I need (for example, hiding the radar during a sharp turn).

$100 Vs $600 bob bob bob .. .. .. :D

lol yes, true, but totally worth it. Arena in VR is everything that I ever wanted from my childhood fantasies of being a space ace. It is a whole different experience from monitor play. You feel like you are in your ship, in space, dog fighting! No words can really do the VR experience with Elite justice.

No, same here. Cheap monitor and a lot of experience of reading the scanner.
(Having an old "square" monitor I think helps, since it means I can still see the scanner in a turn)

Wow,.. I fought you on few matches yesterday.. you're really a good fighter sir..

I gotta upgrade the whole system if I want to go VR.. but I will definitely do that one time in the future.. :D

For now I'm quite okay with minimum camera movement and activate the "precision mode" on Track IR 5.. I'll gradually increase the movement tho if necessary..

Or £10 (ED tracker) vs £600. I would not be without mine.
Or free if you use your smartphone and Opentrack.

I literally can't play either Arena or the main game now without my phone strapped to my head. My wife thinks I look like a right wally though.

I brought an EDtracker pro, but stopped using it when I switched from using a hotas to xb1 controller, it's just far faster and more convenient to use headlook via a click of the thumbstick.

I found it actually quite distracting using edtracker since I had to keep re-centering it when the position would drift off over a few mins, despite the built in magnetometer which is supposed to stop drift.

What setup / app are you using? I have serious doubts that my phone will track movement at high enough fidelity to be useful, but I lose nothing giving it a try. (Except maybe an excuse for when I lose, if it turns out to work well :))

Question for those of you with headtracking... can you target ships that aren't already right in front of you?

Yup, you can. It's not very precise as you don't have a head-tracking crosshairs, but you can target enemies (and bodies) off-axis alright.
