Head Tracking query

TrackIR is about £150

The £10 DIY kit seems like a very involved process.

Can anyone recommend an off-the-shelf, ready-to-use, ED compatible product for less than £50 ?

You could try FaceTrackNoir, where you only need a cheap-ish webcam.

I've been using TrackIR myself for several years now and none of the substitutes worked as good and reliable as TIR though.

Keep in mind that you don't need the latest TIR version, I'm still using a TIR4 and it's still working very well. Should be quite a bit cheaper.

Thanks Commanders -

I'll investigate both options.
well, I tried facetracknoir and in a brightly lit room it worked fine, but playing Elite in a dark room is awesome.
Got an EDtrack made for me £30, and yes I have to wear headphones to attach it to, but I wouldn't play without it now :D
The new software is even better and I think there's a wireless version now. Best. Addon. Ever

I'm using the Delan Clip with FaceTrackNoIR on the 3 point setting rather than face tracking. It works very well. I made a mount that swaps over using velcro so I can change from headphones to a headphone band (from an old pair with the phones cut off) for when I want to play with speakers.

EDIT: I'm using a Playstation 3 camera. You can get the PC driver for about £3

Invest your money into the TrackIR... you will be happy you did! once you start using it, you never realise how you played without it

I never used head tracking before but i think i will give it a try.
Ordered the Arduino parts and now waiting for them to arrive. It will be fun assembling it. :)

By the way - is it worth it if you have only one monitor?

Nice! Will give it a try when the parts come.
Now i need to think of a good way to attach it on my head as i do not play with headphones.

I have a 24" monitor and it works perfectly fine on that.
