Heading to Saggitarius A

Hello there! cough cough, general kenooobi..

So, I'd like to go to the center of the galaxy, if I'm not wrong (because I've been out from this game almost a year) there was a station in construction process around Saggitarius A, and I'd love to visite it.

The thing is, I don't know how to reach it, the pointer on the map says it's out of my reach or something like that, but there has to be a way to go even further beyond.

Also, which Ship and equipment should I carry with me for this journey?

Thank you so much everyone and fly safe, Starfer Out.

Yes, Explorers Anchorage was built following a deep space mining CG.

The max range for GalMap to plot a route is 20kly - Sag A* is further than that. An easy work around this is to select select Sag A* on GalMap, then pick a nebula/system somewhere between. Or, you could go via Colonia and stop off at the stations along the way - there must be a list of them somewhere.

As for which ship, take whatever you fancy. I took a Krait to the mining CG, then swapped out the mining gear for AMFU, SRV, SLF, etc. and carried on to Beagle Point. It was a long way home from there.

Wow... all those loaded questions which can start arguments!!!

:)

The station is Explorer's Anchorage and there are a few more around there, as well.

As far as reaching it goes, I'd recommend doing some neutron star hopping. You can plot the course using the Neutron Router, which is extremely handy.

Regarding equipment, the only thing you 'need' is a fuel scoop and you can use any ship you like.

The most popular, due to jump range, are:
  • Anaconda
  • Diamondback Explorer
  • Asp Explorer

What I'd recommend, though, are:
  • Class A FSD engineered for long range and Mass Manager
  • Class A fuel scoop
  • AFMU for repairs
  • Discover Scanner for scanning planets
  • Guardian FSD Booster
  • Dune Buggy
  • Downgraded internal modules to lower sizes and all class D where you can

If you want to go all-out nuts, here's my engineered DBX for the upcoming Perseus Reach Expedition.

Good luck!

The station, Explorers Anchorage, is in Stuemeae FG-Y d7561, which is 1 jump away from Sag A*. If I understand you correctly when you say it's out of your reach, it sounds like you're trying to plot a route straight from the Bubble to the center, in which case, the galaxy map has a limit of about 15k LYs. Try plotting a route about that far away from where you are now and it should give you a route, then re-plot once you're closer.

As for what ships, that depends on a lot of things. How many credits do you have? How fast do you want to get there? Do you only want to go to Sag A* or do more long term exploration? How much time and resources do you want to invest in these things? What do you currently like to fly?

Thanks for the responses

@Ethaidan Good, thank you, i hope i don't end by killing myself on that journey, let's sort the stars...and buy a reparation module

@TheWonko I have no intention on starting any argument out there, i feel like a noob again after all this time, tbh. Regarding neutron stars i'd rather avoid them, the last time I tried to use one of these I just...died. Thank you for your response and ship recommendations, that ASP is looking great.

@Hawk of Battle normally i carry either a Corvette or a Python, but i also have other ships, such as the asp, the diamondback, the imperial courier and who knows what else, iIhave like 330 millions, so credits are not a problem.

If you are just going to Sag A* you really can take any ship with a reasonable jump range, it's only really a matter of how long you want to take doing it.

I took a Dolphin (51 ly range at the time) to Sag A* and then used the same ship to go to Beagle point. So go with whatever you feel like, but TheWonko's basic advice stands whatever you fly.

With the addition of the Guardian FSD booster and some additional light weight engineering mods it'll now do 57 ly.

Take 2 x AFMU's so they can fix each other.

Neutron stars are safe as houses so long as you take the appropriate care:
Have a practice at Jackson’s Lighthouse in the Bubble and you’ll be zipping along in no time! The third party Spansh tool knocks spots off of the in-game router if you really want to get a move on.

Also nobody has mentioned the Krait Phantom yet - second best jump range I believe and good handling (unlike the Anaconda, which is a barge).

So, all things prepared to start the journey to Saggitarius A. I've decided to use the Anaconda instead of the Diamondback and i'll start from Galileo station, Sol System.

I really apreciate the data provided here to make this journey possible. This is what i've wanted to do since i purchased this game long ago, wish me luck.

CMDR Starfer, out.

If you have been away from the game and do not want to use neutron star boosting your easiest and safest option is to follow the Colonia Highway (also easy to plot from station to station). Either go to Colonia first, or if you don't want to do that, take a "right" at Polo Harbour and go to Explorer's Anchorage.

Have a safe trip.

Well, I'm approaching colony, just only 77 jumps more, and from there, directly to the supermassive black hole.

Speaking of which...I assume it'll instantly kill me by spaggethification if I get too close, but how can I know the closest safe distance?

anyways, I'll be there eventually, I did not had much time these days, but I'm getting close.

Your ship will tell you before you hit the exclusion zone :)
(because Sag A* will overheat your ship, and you should have time to make some distance to cool down)

For other black holes, the best is to try how close you can go...

... which is : to the exclusion zone, where your ship will automatically stop, and if it is a quite cool ship, won't overheat...

I really wish that spaghettification would be a real danger if you got too close. But alas, it will only overheat you, and you'll have plenty of warning.
