Headphone/mic recommendations

I have those and to be honest they are touch and go in Windows 8 and onwards because of the abysmal driver support from Plantronics. The Mic would not work on my PC at all (Windows 8.1) once I got a USB 3 front port plugged into my motherboard (Worked fine before then and no matter what I did, even plugging it into a USB2.0 port -Still no microphone) and I ended up getting the Razr Kraken Chroma instead. Which work perfectly on the same PC...

Weird thing is my Plantronics work fine on my Son's PC using the same version of windows just fine.

I know it took Plantronics months for them to fix the Windows 8.1 drivers and you could only get the beta's by PMing the Tech guy in the Forum for a while which was bloody stupid.

When Windows 10 comes out next month I fully expect them to be dead in the water.. Shame really as they are a really good set of headphones fro the price.

Thanks for the headsup as regards W10, will have to wait and see

Pick up one of the cheaper audiophile grade headsets, a cheap usb amp, and add a mod mic to said headset.
you can get everything for around $75 of course you can go crazy too but yeah look on eBay and Amazon.
elite has too many good sounds to be only hearing half of them. Even if you don't get an audiophile grade set of cans get the amp most all of the headsets can benefit from having an amp to run through.

I just got a pair of Logitech G430 7.1 surround headphones. I've been playing on my laptop for a few months and this is a whole new experience. It was the cheapest of the true surround headphones (meaning software supported Dolby virtual surround) and they sound amazing. I can't say anything about the mic, as I haven't used it yet, but I guarantee you've been missing out without headphones. I was just blown away by how much I was missing!

If you want decent headphones then it really has to be Sennheiser, even more so if you are in to music. They are so well built, most have replaceable parts and they sound superb.

^^this

Sennheiser PC8

- lightweight (could not stand my heavyweight Logitech G930 anymore)
- great sound and mic quality
- good price

Also have a similar setup to Arda. Can't recommend the Antlion Mod Mic enough. I will never buy another "gaming" headset again. They make too many compromises for whatever price point they sell at.

Not knowing what your exact budget is, I would highly recommend the Sennheiser HD 598 over-ear headphones ($150): http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-598-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B0042A8CW2

I have worn a lot of headphones over the years and these have been the absolutely most comfortable and have excellent audio quality. I own some Ultrasone Edition 8's (About $1000 USD) and they have the best sound for headphones of all the ones I've used, but I still use my HD 598's for gaming. The Sennheiser 598's have a soft plush ear cup and are very light. You will not get a headache and your ears/skull won't ache from the pressure of the headset. You can wear these for hours and hours and it won't even feel like they are on your head. They're are also open-back headphones so the spatial awareness is really great. You'll feel immersed in your cockpit while you're flying around the galaxy.

Whatever you choose, make sure it's something that will be comfortable for the typical period of time that you play games. As much as I love my Ultrasones, I can maybe watch a movie before they become painful.
