For laptop gaming, I use an old Apple iPhone earbud headset. It's actually really good. At my desk I use some nice bookshelf speakers when I can make noise, but when I can't I use some MixCDER Bluetooth over ear jobs I got from Amazon a few years ago. To be honest they're perfectly good for gaming and listening to music whilst I work. I could spend a lot more, but the law of diminishing returns is in effect. I'd get slightly better sound quality and wouldn't really extract any extra enjoyment from spending 2,3, even 10 times as much.
I find with audio there is a lot of snake oil around. Like a LOT of it. It's mostly intended to upsell people in the pursuit of tiny, fractional improvements in quality that you wouldn't even notice. As with so much in life, the cheapest option is usually cheapest for a reason. The Midrange is usually the best value, then you start to pay to pay.
