Headset with tje Vive? (Audio)

Almost done ordering everything i will need for VR.

I need advise on a headset though. Preferably wireless and preferably under 100$

I had deposited the munny to order a turtle beach 450 stealth bit so far have held off on ordering it. Some reviews online complained the auto shutoff and voice prompts were super annoying. Does anyone have any advise on a decent wireless headset or even any experience with the TB 450?

P.s. wireless is important. I know the hmd has an audio out but i want to be able to take off the hmd and be able to walk around my house with the headset on if i choose

Before the Vive I used a headset but since I have the Vive I do not use one anymore.
I have my sound on my speakers and the build in Microphone of the Vive works perfectly with VA.
Keep your $100 in your pocket for now :)

1) you assume i have speakers. I dont. Unless i take them from somewhere else.

2) I like using headphones.i prefer using them......especially for chat

Hi commander. I understand that you prefer another headset, but in my experiece it just get enough of stuff on your head. I only use the built in vive ear pices. It gets complicated to remove and put on the HMD with an additional headset.

So, if you want my advice, wait untill you have the HMD in your hands.

You don't need a headset with microphone for one and if you put your headset in the Vive's audio out your'e not restricted from walking around your house by that..

Use the included Vive ear plugs and wait for Deluxe Audio Strap to hit the market. Arrange your plugs like in the video above.

You're far better off saving the $100 for the strap as it will most likely be outrageously priced. But it looks sweet.
PS: I was initially not sold on Rifts integrated headphones idea but having tried it on, they're great. I'm looking forward to buy the strap as it comes out if the price is not too high (still need to save ~$250 for the wireless addon ;-) )

Speakers don't work with VR. I was puzzled by this initially, but then realised it is perfectly logical. If the front sound is sent to the front speakers, they remain stationary. If you turn your head in VR, the front you're looking at is somewhere else in respect to your speakers, and the game would need to keep track of where your front speakers are and recalculate all sound sources accordingly. Nightmarish. It may not be as evident in Elite where frankly it doesn't really matter that much, but in games which give you sound clues like the brookhaven experiment, you're toast.

1)I like a good quality headset for chat.

2)Earbuds in my ears are a no go. I hate them. But I like ear cups

3)How am i supposed to chat with people if i take off the HMD???

Hence.....me asking about a wireless headset that works well over the HMD.

Chat and good quality are usually mutually exclusive due to bandwitdh etc., but that's highly subjective of course.

I hate earbuds too. They fall out regardless of the rubber size I use. However, if you watch the video you'll notice that they dangle downwards from the strap, making them fall out much less. Worked good in Raw Data, didn't try Holopoint yet ;-)

To take off the hmd you'll first need to take off the headset ;-) But regardless, the headset mic has a fairly good range (we tested that) so assuming you put the headset somewhere near, your party will still hear you. Now depending on the situation in which you put the headset off switching from earbuds to speakers can even be automated. For example when chatting on discord and ending play session you can instruct steamvr to switch to speakers but leave vive mic as a recording device. I didn't test that however, and cannot do so now because the headset in out for RMA.

I appreciate everyones suggestions but so far not one person has answered my question or even provided a single suggestion based on what i asked.

I asked for a wireless headset to fit over the HMD. Not a suggestion to use surround sound or use the included audio. Neither of those are an option for me. They may be an option for you but i obviously have different needs than you

I will routinely be taking off my HMD and walking around my house. My setup will be in the basement and i will often need to take off the HMD and go upstairs to do stuff and i want to be able to take the conversation with me. This is just one reason, but i have plenty of others.

Yo guys seem to be ignoring my question and/or assuming my needs = your needs (which they obviously do not)

As i have said...any form of earplugs are NOT an option. Suggesting that i use a surround system or the included audio/chat of the HMD is also NOT an option.

So, taking what i ACTUALLY asked in mind.....does anyone know of something that would work well for MY needs.

P.s. not trying to come off like a jerk, but everyone basically ignoring what i asked and telling me to do what works for them (even though it is the oposite of what i asked) is mildly annoying

Hi Cmdr,
I have been using a headset&mic with ED for a long time, wouldn't have it any other way.
Initially I had a Corasir Void headset, but would not recommend it for several reasons.
The mic was not great, the mute mic button stopped working, & the software to update it, was shockingly bad.
I also had a Corsair keyboard that, had a fault on it, after a while.
I would never buy a Corsair product again.
As my Corsair Void headset was still in warranty, I took it back & got a Razer Man o War headset.
I realise it's above your requested spend level, but it might be worth saving for.
It really is a fantastic piece of kit(works great with voice attack). The sound quality is awesome, & I'm now hearing sounds that I never heard on the Void.
I was so impressed, I bought the Razer Chroma keyboard, also a great piece of kit.
Save up Cmdr, you won't be disappointed
I have a Vive, & I'm now very pleased with my ED setup.

Logitech G930 Wireless headset with boom mic and 7.1 Surround. 5 out of 5 stars.

Owned mine for almost two years now and still holds a decent charge. Specs say 10 hours, but I get 6-8 hours of continuous use out of it (Elite + trance music or podcasts in the background) before I need to plug it in and carry on.

Not trying to come off as a jerk, but we are giving you advince based on our experiences with both the Vive and our own headsets. I have used the Vive extensivly with both internal and external headsetts. Many of us talk / discord / voip while we use the headset, with external and built in headsets, and some has found the external too much hassle (some enjoy external as well obvoisly). :) We are trying to help man.

I had the Corsair H2100, this is one of the cheapes wireless gaming headsets you can get, but I did not like it. Heavy on the head, and low quality mic. It is cheap though.

Also the whole gaming line of accessories is bull imo. Colorful to what reason? I personally stay far away from all Razor products, due to them requreing me to sign in to configure a mouse driver. Their sofware is very bad, to me.

Most if not all wireless headsets are compatible with the Vive strap wise. Remeber you have to take off headsett before the Vive.

If I were you, and had 100 dollars to spend, I would look for a non gaming headset, but a wireless headset for music / phones. And I would look at reviews of that in regards to your specific need. This ED VR forum is maybe not the best place to look for wireless headsets.

I beg to differ. Home theater digital surround sound works perfectly for Elite: Dangerous. E: D actually supports true 7.1 digital surround. Not that 7.1 nonsense advertised on headphones with 2 speakers... Don't make me go there.

I have a setup where I place my chair/hotas/keyboard/pad in the middle of my living room, and the true digital surround sound is amazing, creating that sense of space that you don't get from headsets.

But I digress. To the OP; as others have said, use the earbuds that come with the Vive and hear E: D in lush stereo (that's all you'll ever get out of earbuds/headset anyway, no matter what anyone says ;) ). They're not half bad if headphones/earbuds is your thing. :)

Well.......Thread abandoned...... because everyone keeps suggesting the exact opposite of what i asked for and (almost) no one bothered to take into account what i actually said

You forum people should be ashamed. Coming round here with your helpful suggestions, sharing knowledge based on your own experiences. Are you even reading what hes actually asking? This poor person has had to abandon the thread! Dark days.

Oh boy the Vive earplugs are horrid. I couldn't even get them to stay in my ears and they were painful when in there.

I just use my normal headset which is a Shogun Bros 7.1 surround sound headphones. I find it comfortable to wear, more so than the vive ear plugs they send you. As for a mic I have a condensing mic on a boom arm which has a good quality audio and pick up.

He already made up his mind to buy a wireless headphone for $99.99, all other suggestions, better or not, are dismissed so I don't understand why he started this discussion in the first place.

Please buy a wireless headphone for $99.99

Nice atitude.

And yes....i did make up my mind to buy a wiress headset. Do you know why? Because that is what I need. And that is precisely why i started this discussion to begin with. Its not my fault you cant read.

I promise you, your suggestions are NOT better because they dont work for ME in MY situation. That is why i asked the question I did. But instead of answering the question you sit there and repeatedly suggest the one thing that i have clearly stated is not an option.

Its too bad people are too pig headed to consider that what works in your situation may not be ideal for someone else.

Suggestions are not helpful if they are suggesting something i clearly said over and over again was not an option. At that point it's less suggesting and more trolling

And while i may have abandoned my hope for this thread...... its not like im blind and cant see your in here acting like a (richard)

EDIT: thank you to the 3 people who actually read what i asked and took the time to suggest products that may actually fit my needs
