Newcomer / Intro Headsup: fleet carrier expedition announced

Hi all here,
just came across this thread in DD:
FC expeditions are (usually) a great way to explore remote regions and make new friends - but (unless you have a suitably equipped ship - or don't mind suiciding back to the starter system) you're also bound to the carrier for the duration.

Carriers have escape pods that take you back to the last station you docked at. After using the escape pod transfer ship from carrier to station or wait till carrier is back/close to the bubble again (cheaper).

On one hand this is a great idea and will probably be a lot of fun for those involved and props to the FC owner. Love these sorts of community things (not that an old badger like me would ever participate.)

On the other hand I see two major problems with it
1) "Mass exploration" is kind of a weird concept - a hundred people discovering the same thing at the same time takes away a bit from it.
2) Exploration is boring, yet calming experience with an occasional wonder along the way. Being carried (both figuratively and quite literally) towards your discoveries (albeit discoveries only a carrier will allow you to see) feels like the proverbial AFK quest from an MMO. It's like the difference between crossing an Atlantic on a small one-man yacht to visit the Carribean and taking a cruise ship trip there. Both can be fun but are two entirely different experiences.
Dunno. :)

Still. Nice idea. Especially for newcomers or otherwise non-exploratory types.
