Heat control for Hyperspace jump

I was using this method in my Type 6 and thought i'd share.
1. In normal space, point ship at target and accelerate to full speed.
2. Turn FA off
3. Turn off engines (still on full speed / power)
4. Coast for a while until temperature drops to 0% (or whatever your patience will allow!)
5. Engage hyperspace drive
6. Watch the charging bar increasing
7. Just before its full charged, bring up the systems panel with "engines" selected
8. When you hear the low beep sound, turn on the engines
9. 5 second count immediately starts
10. When you enter hyperspace your temperature will be around 70%

Cool! Literally :)

The other method is to use a heat sink. Just before the charge bar is complete, press your heat sink button. This is easier but costs maybe 25cr per jump and who can afford that? :)

That's all great and all that but..... why bother?
We know the type 6 and 9 run hot. I've never blown one up yet

Well, i suppose i was making journeys of more than 1 jump and was worried about blowing up! I think I read somewhere that they can get up to 1000C so guess i was worrying unecessarily!

When I was in the Type 6 I just used heat sinks but maybe my game was bugged. I never needed to buy many of them because when released just before jump it was never counted as being used.

Quieting the game and when I load up the next day though I noticed I always missing a heat sink but I think that missing heat sink thing is a known bug.

Very good but tbh why bother?
My l6 and especially l9 have run up to 210% after a couple of jumps, and apart from a few pretty sparks and a little hull damage, no issues. I havent got time for all this pssyfooting around :D:D

You can make double hops in a type 9 without serious issues and it's worse than the type 6. You don't start taking damage until 150%. Occasionally if I wasn't careful I'd take a trivial amount of overheat damage, but nothing alarming. No heat sinks or system turn offs used, I'd just start the trip fairly cool - 50% or so.

Actually it was quite alarming the first time I overheated it - I went to 200% or more and I docked with less than 50% hull  Sparkly!

i have this too , there's a guild of thiefs on every station stealing a heat charge every time the owner of a ship goes to sleep.

I do exactly the same thing (ticketed the "free heatsink" bug too) but I've noticed that on occasion when the missing heatsink bug happens I lose two heatsinks instead of one. So something somewhere is counting the jettisoned sink but not always updating it.

As for why I bother? While I know the Type 6 can currently go to silly temperatures without damage I know this is a bug and won't always be the case. Getting into the habit of using heatsinks efficiently will hopefully prevent that embarrassing and costly "oops" moment when the temperature bug gets squashed and I fail to notice
