Newcomer / Intro Heat exchangers

hi,

so i need heat exchangers for engineering. its said that they are found at signal sources in anarchy systems. i looked at many different signals in anarchy systems but havent even found 1.
what am i doing wrong?

Trying to find a specific material in USS's is very hit and miss.

It's generally easier to instead go to a few HGE's (High Grade Emissions), grab whatever's in there, and trade down at a material trader.

Since the Heat Exchangers are Grade 3, and whatever you find in the HGEs is gonna be grade 5, you can pretty easily trade for what you need.

They are a material. If you go into a Degraded Emissions or Encoded Emissions signal source you will find manufactured materials floating about. If you go into a High Grade Emissions signal source you will find the more rare type of manufactured materials. You can exchange (trade) materials to get what you are looking for at a Materials Trader in Industrial Economies. Look in https://inara.cz/galaxy-nearest/25/ to find different things near you, in this case, enter your location and then after the search completes, select the Material Trader button and look for a Manufactured type of trader.

An alternative way of getting many types of the manufactured materials is to run around in your buggy scooping them up in a place called Dav's Hope (an abandoned surface installation). https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/davs-hope-for-the-new-commander.515954/

You get them at Davs Hope. It's probably a better idea to go there and get all the other materials while you're at it, plus the data that you get from the beacon.

When you see any encoded, manufactured or raw materials collect them if possible even if you don’t need them now you might in the future if only as trade items for those you cannot find besides they don’t have any storage penalties.

More specifically "Degraded Emissions" signal sources in Anarchy systems
Each signal source you find will randomly role between the following material and give you one or two of them

Not finding what you want is annoying, but also intended.
The methods explained before are great ways to avoid this problem, or work around it.
As you are in an anarchy system already, you can freely destroy transport ships (no bounty) which commonly drop heat exchangers as well. Pulling them from supercruise with the FSD interdictor, or skulking around the nav beacon orbiting the main star. This use to be my go to option due to pure frustration at not finding the material in siginal sources it would spur my trigger finger into action.

i can destroy non bounty ships in anarchy systems without getting bounty on my head?

does the trader type (raw, manufactured, encoding) matter?

After you scan the ship, it has to say LAWLESS on your HUD, then you're free to shoot.
Be careful if you pull a ship out of SC (or drop into Convoy SS) - the system may be an Anarchy, the specific bubble of space you find yourself in may not.

Greetings,

Inara and EDDB don't always get materials right especially after a major ED update. The BGS resets sometimes taking a week or two to settle down plus dealing with the bugs as the Devs are updating often changing the BGS. During this time I often get the 'impression' that the Devs don't know either until tickets are submitted by the players. Then they have to wade through posts with players who know the game versus those that don't. A big task.

Experienced Beta testers thinking out of the box trying to 'break' the game is what Frontier needs, But spending Beta time trying to figure out how to fly a Fleet Carrier doesn't help to get the game to the live version. Just one opinion.

Dav's Hope is a great place to acquire lots of materials including the Pharmaceutical Isolators for thrusters. A big deal. Also check out the Canonn Research page for many interesting places to explore to find most everything. I've been to many for lots of hours which some might consider a grind. Me, I love the driving the SRV and finding specific POI coordinates on a planet although with current exploration tools manual plotting isn't always required. One reason is in real life I don't have to spend $24,000 on an off road ATV, a trailer to haul it around, a vehicle to pull the trailer and take it somewhere to play with it maybe costing a fee. Not too many sand dunes in Indiana!

I have a almost new 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 650 with 106 miles in the garage but playing ED too much I may not remember how to ride the thing!

Farming Unidentified Signal Sources (USS) also finds a lot of materials. Try them to gain experience knowing what they provide. Watch out for the threat levels until one can deal with them. High Grade Emissions (HGE) provide grade 4-5 encoded materials which can be traded for what is needed. Mostly it is a 6:1 ratio in the same grade and a lot better trading down for what is needed. I submitted a suggestion years ago for 3:1 (hoping to get 4:1) but Frontier saw through me.

Playing the material collection mini-game manufactured materials are the easiest being so plentiful. Raw materials are a little harder but explorer missiles to scan a planet launched from a Detailed Surface Scanner provides the needed info. Engineered less missiles needed. Encoded materials in USS are the most challenging. I think that the Frontier Devs might have been evil designing this. I have no Imperial Shielding in Empire systems and they do not show up. I have Imperial Shielding but looking for two other grade 5 mats and I get lots of them in HGEs! Well, my perception.

I have a Dolphin build that is dedicated to gathering materials in the bubble, an Asp Explorer for longer jump ranges and Krait Mk II taking care of Guardian sites and Thargoid Scout combat when a player gets around to them. Like any player style in ED once a player gets the experience per all those evil 'Dev' tricks playing the game is pretty easy.

Open mode at Devs Hope doesn't always mean a rebuy but can be a risk. Sometimes it does with a dedicated griefer. An experienced player being OK with that can be fun seeing SRVs 'suddenly' popping in and out of an instance and getting scarred to death seeing you. Other times a live player ship looks me over and decides not to go to combat. You decide and enjoy the game.

I hope that I provided help info an also made some smiles...Enjoy the game.

Regards
