Can we please have an option to turn off the auto open on the heatmaps? I am finding it difficult to place items like educational boards with it opening. I am aware I can shut it down using 'H' key, but when I'm placing multiple items I would prefer to make my own decision about when to open heatmaps to check them.

I agree that there should be a toggle off button somewhere. If i want to place 10 items i need to press h 20(!) times, since the heatmap only goes away after the second push on the botton.
Yessss. On that note, I would also love a way to toggle on and off the grouping, when I build. When I use small walls next to a path and want to make it curve slightly, the grouping is as annoying as the forced heat maps (which in all honesty aren't that big of a help to me when you can't see the path with it anyway)
