Heat problems with FDL

Let me start this off with sorry if this in the wrong sub-forum it's changed since the last time I've been on here so I apologize.

Okay now I recently bought an FDL and outfitted it for combat with turret laser beams and a Plasma Accelerator. I've got 5A Shields and Max Distributor and Thrusters. My problem is is in combat I seem to overheat in mere seconds of firing my lasers and shooting the plasma accelerator practically shaves off 1% of my hull. I haven't engineered anything yet I'm still working on getting G5 Laser Beam for the Efficiency blueprint, but is there anything I can do to decrease my heat build-up on my FDL in the meantime all help will be appreciated.

Both the beam lasers and plasma generate a tonne of heat. It's a problem combo and if you want to keep that setup you will need to engineer it to reduce the heat levels. Don't fire everything at once, that will generate too much heat as you are experiencing. Personally I'd never use the two together, I'd usually go with one high heat generating weapon set and one low heat, like pulses and rails.

For now, short term, use heat sinks when the heat build up is too much, or change your load out to something that generates less heat like pulses and MCs or swap out the plasma for a huge cannon.

Long term, engineer the weapons and ship to reduce heat and learn how to fire in sequence to avoid massive heat issues.

I'm sure other cmdrs on here who use a similar setup can post some better solutions and engineering fixes.

Thanks for the help I'll probably replace the plasma accelerator with multi cannon since I never use it anyway because of the heat issues. The other problem I have though (Which I forgot to mention in the original post) is I play on XBox so I only have two key bindings for firing so I have to make a load of secondary fire groups to use my Heat sink and shield booster and pressing left bumper and X to just use one of them is very tedious and wastes precious firing time. I know on PC you can bind heat sinks and shield boosters to other keys so it would help if someone could tell me if this is possible on XBox.

A lot of FDL loadouts in for your basic bounty hunting is a combo of efficient pulses, efficient beams, overcharged multicannons. That gives you combination of better heat management, distributor draw, and a lets you overcharge the PP to stack up shield boosters, as well as get those essential G5 dirty drives down the road.

If you are using it for single target activities, assassinations/bounties, I run 4 med MC's and 1 huge PA. No heat or power gripes ever. Dirty drives, SCB's, and can pretty well shoot to my hearts content. This set up isn't great for CZ's though. Too ammo dependant to be really worth it in my opinion.

If you like your set up though, heat sinks will help, but ammo dependent. You can also hit some engineers to reduce the heat if you are into that. I would recommend engineering if you want to keep the set up though. Use the slot you would have had for sinks for additional shielding.

Replace the beam laser, lots of heat for not much gain - pulse is a lot more efficient and cooler with more DPE for the cost of comparatively little DPS. Also make sure you are running an A grade plant.

Sounds like you just need some engineering. I'm running 3 Plasma's (1 large, 2 mediums), 2 MC's, G5 DD's, G4 PP overcharged, and don't have any heat issues.

It is possible, I can't remember the way to do it though unfortunately, I never got around to doing it. I know my wing leader has his SCBs and Heat Sinks bound to the D-Pad tho

You aren't meant to simply for example place, ALL high damage high heat weapons on your ship and not get heat problems, it is what it is, so yeah, change your setup.

I run 5 PA's on my pvp fdl. Heats not much of an issue with the efficient g5 mods. A good solid fight the heat might take a couple of percent off some modules. Now if you want to see a toasty fdl....5 high capacity modded imperial hammers...that hot enough to roast a hogs butt in a spoon full.

You can set shortcuts to fire heatsink, shield Cell banks, chaff, etc. Go options under Controller menu

Really? I didn't know that. I'm currently running grade B. As for all your other advice I thank you all I'll probably run pulse lasers and see how that runs and if that doesn't work I'll just have to grind for my engineers
