CQC Heat sinks and weapon tracking

Is there some correlation between heatsinks and the gimbaling of weapons? Was just in a match against a particular pilot in an eagle. I'd be right up behind him and guns would track perfectly for about 2-3 shots then suddenly the gimbal on my pulses would seemingly shut off and he'd have to be dead center of my sights for them to track him. Target lock wasn't breaking so I assume it wasn't silent running or is the real effect of silent running at close range that it causes your weapons to have difficulty tracking?

Yeah that's how it works. I call it the greenhorn cutter since its effective against pilots who don't know how to aim well with fixed weapons. But the ship is pretty garbage against good pilots who know how to aim.

Which one is how it works? :) Is it the heatsink or silent running?

Heat sink.

You can know the opponent ships is using heatsink because there is many particules going out of his rear (also you kill warrant scanner isnt working anymore).

But if you deselect your enemy, you guns will shoot as if you havent got grimballed (like fixed ones) it is a good way to keep doing damage while your enemy is using heatsinks.

Eagles with heatsinks and a pilot who strafes are pretty tricky, especially as Eagles have fairly powerful weapons. You can dodge them, but that makes aiming much harder. They tend to take me down fairly quickly in a Condor, if the pilot is good.
