Heatsinks just saved my life

So, I'm currently cruising along minding my own business while exploring, when I suddenly drop into the system from...a hot place.

Some people complain about having trouble with binary systems, but that is nothing compared to dropping into a quad grouping.

I saw as I passed the A-star on entry that this might be trouble, and tried aiming at the gap between the F-star and second K-star while quickly trying to find my keybind to release a heatsink.

I managed to avoid getting overheated, but I got to stresstest my heart atleast. I'm always doing a full stop when entering a system, in this case it would have been easier if I was coming in at speed, I hope to never see one like this again :)

Scorchio!!!

That does look like the sort of Scene you do not want to see when dropping into a system.

Glad your safe.

Holy crap! I thought I had troubles with some of my close encounters! Yours takes the cake. Glad you made it out ok! By the way, what is the system name for this place? I wanna go! =D

This is making me reconsider using my Cobra Mk IV when I head out after Engineers drop... It isn't the coldest ship...

DBX is looking more & more attractive. Seeing as I have no interest in going to the really far-flung systems, I don't *need* an SRV... They're not my favourite thing to drive anyway. Got Horizons for the Cobra/best mining ship, really.

My choice with the DBX now is to leave the AFMU at home and take a vehicle hangar with me. Because the DBX is so resistant to heat damage it helps mitigate the module wear. It makes this ship a medium range explorer though since to do planetary landings you really need that shield generator.

If you leave the AFMU at home, don't you have room for a shield? Am I missing something?

DW is the first time in 12 months that I bothered to equip heatsinks. A couple of weeks out I went AFK and returned to find my ship slowly cooking. I immediately headed away from the star I hadn't realised I was pointing at and the ship quickly cooled down. But before that happened I saw the message "heatsink launcher rendered inoperable" or something along those lines. Anyway, I got clear of the star, dropped to normal space and proceeded to repair everything (took some 3 reloads with my tiny 2A AFMU) only to discover that the damage to the heat sink launcher had led to the heat sinks all being fired off. None left. Talk about irony!

Ah well, in over 53,000 systems I've yet to actually need one so fingers crossed....

Yeah, that might have been unclear. What I was saying was that you can't really leave the shield at home if you're going to do planetary landings, and if you take the vehicle hangar with you that's what you'd be taking it for. So leave the AFMU behind, is what I say. Really if the DBX had one more size 2 internal module (for the vehicle hangar) it would be everything I want in an explorer.

Splitting a size 2 into 2 size 1s would help. They really need to upgrade the dbx since Horizons. I did think of posting on the suggestions board that they release a version 2 dbx and existing owners could trade in their current ships for it.
