Engineers Heavy duty vs light weight mod on liht weight armour

I have just got what looked like a top drawer level 5 roll on my light weight armour and its left me with 140% hull protection and some nice boosts on kinetic, heat and explisive as well (why do some have + and some - to the boosts even tho all are blue?)

The roll was to the far right on everything then i got a littke bonus on kinetic, explosive and thermal on top of that so guessing it was a good roll.

However shoukd i have been doing the liht weight mod instead of the heavy duty?

Depends on what you are going for.

I am always focused on maximizing my FSD range, so all my upgrades are centered around Optimized Mass improvements. Any of the Heavy Duty related upgrades will always compromise your Optimized Mass specs for a more "Tanky" hull spec. For me, the costs to jump range is just too great, so I instead focus on shield mods including Cell Banks and Boosters so that hull strength never enters into it.

If I loose my shields during a fight, I consider that a "FAIL" and will go back to the drawing board to insure that I don't loose them in future. :) With this approach, your hull is never exposed to damage.

While in essence i agree with you, it seems stupid to me not to put the heavy duty mod on all of my ships using lightweight armour. Its a free upgrade regarding weight since anything times 0 is still 0...

Plus in my experience its very easy to get good rolls on that mod, so not much mats required.

Not the best roll, will try it further...

It still gives a hull boost and increased resistances. Your posting miss information as you did in the shield booster thread.

Fruitbat: I think you might think he is saying something else. He is just saying the negative aspect of performing a heavy duty armour upgrade on the stock bulkheads doesn't increase it's mass. Which is true.
