General / Off-Topic Heavy Earthquake here

Trinidad- near Venezuela.
Aftershocks now.

6.1-6.4 Richter according to the readings. Worst one for me, the ground was like an ocean surface, could hear the steel in the buildings groaning.

Edit: upgraded to a 6.8, 29km deep, 100kn NW of the Capital, in the sea. On tsunami watch now, I guess?

Edit: looks like there's another centre in Venezuela? Might be along a fault line, which runs dead centre through this island.

News says there's damage along the North coast, but all my contacts locally are OK.

Seismic centre has upgraded it to 7.2 now, which is a pretty strong one by any standards.

We build rugged reinforced hurricane resistant houses here, so hopefully most people will just shrug it off. The foundation piles under my home are 22 feet down under the ground, which is great for atmospheric stuff. Not so much for earthquakes.

Yowie!

Hope you're OK.

We have the New Madrid Fault, and tornadoes.

Yes always the problem. Good for one (earthquakes) is not good for typhoons and vice versa.
Rule number one is step outside right? It is disruptive but earthquakes don't kill people, buildings do.

Hopefully the earth-stress is easing - it shifts to the next fault I believe.
Venezuela (too) is really going through it one way or another.
