Heavy Weight Champions Circuit

Noted! I've seen you making progress, hope to see you soon!

Also updated the roster to our latest addition, Hyperious

This is a bit strange. EDSM is showing me as having completed the circuit, and I definitely haven't, as you can see by looking at my flight log.

Hmm.

EDSM lists the end system as BD+31 2290 and you have, according to your flight logs, been there twice since the expedition start date so at a guess that's probably making EDSM think you've completed the mission.

Let Anthor know on the EDSM thread, the expedition progress algorithm might need to be a wee bit cleverer :)

Aha good thinking, cheers.

Yeah; I should've made the final waypoint one system over. I wasn't sure how it would work..... and I know now hahaha

It does look a bit weird, but all is well.

Today was the meetup for Waypoint 7!
We played SRV Tag for at least a solid hour.
I wiggled around some: https://gfycat.com/GroundedJauntyEyelashpitviper
We "mass" jumped.
We went to Elephants Trunk Nebula.

We became Trumpler fans.

I found a heavyweight, too. SWOILZ NC-D C28-4 A 1 has 22 Earth masses, I don't know what the g is. I scanned the planet but no info. Should I attempt landing to find out?

Ah yes, the actual appliance of PHYSICS. You know, me not thinking about it myself is due to not even thinking that Elite might use the correct equations and due to people being used to have everything handed on a plater.

ANYWAY, the given data is:
m=22,3988 Em (Earth mass)
R=19.840 km

With some use of internet (sorry, but my high school and uni knowledge is age stricken) I did my best to add additional quantities:
Em=5,9722*10^24 kg
G=6,67191*10^-11 N(m/kg)^2
g=roughly 9,8m/s^2

Adding Excel into the mix...

g(planet)=G*m/R^2=22,6739m/s^2
g(planet)=2,3g

Did I go wrong?

The Distant Worlds Expedition bot agrees with you:

Ok, that is settled then. Thank you for the verification. Frankly I was expecting a huge acceleration when I read 22 Earth masses... I guess the radius does its magic here. It is not a very dense planet as the volume is app. 30 times that of Earth. Foam concrete? ;)

We'll soon reach the famous 9.77G planet at waypoint 11. The previous waypoint 10 is a cool 4.8G, so I made a safe landing video in case people are having second thoughts about the landing. The exact same technique can be used on the 9G planet too.

TL;DW summary: throttle to zero while gliding, pull up after glide ends. Then just tap the thrusters to descend, keep the downward speed low. Final touchdown with FA-off, used in HOLD mode.

For those who missed it, here's the video of my fatal derp at WP10 last night. Start watching at 4:00.

A quick, succesful landing at 9.77G. Don't do this at home.

We at the HWCC just realised some, or even most of our previous waypoint landing sites have been wrong, because at 2.2 launch the coordinates were shown in a wrong order, it was fixed for PC in 2.2.01 and 2.2.02 for xbox (because xbox didn't see 2.2.01).

Sigh

We finished off HWCC last weekend, it was a wonderful time, thanks for everyone that joined us during the expedition! I know it wasn't the most exciting expedition in the world, but we had plenty of laughs! We learned a bit, and will continue to progress our expeditions so they're enjoyable for everyone, and put our own spin on everything to make it as much fun as possible!

Official death list:

Ravstar -T7 - attacked by pirates attacking me - suicide
BlueJay - Conda - failure to control ship
FullMetal130 - T9 - xbox
Brianpmack - T9 - powerplay, attacked by farragut at Palin's base
Carboxcide - Conda - can't launch fighters well upside down, and can't stay upsidedown well on high G
Harrison - Keelback - landing computer can't be trusted. Soltution: use hammer on landing computer.
Ky Vatta - T9 - Learned to never trust wing singals; didn't trust altimeter until 1000m
Conspiracy - Courier - 800 m/s X 50T + planet = Boom
Raijiin - Cutter - Agressively failed landing, medic not in instance
Spooderlady - Asp - "Are you kidding me? I barely touched that!"
Brian - T9 - The planet demanded steak
Nuse - Corvette - Not even 3200 MJ was enough to save him.
Grebenkov - Cutter - Near WP 14 by a random NPC pirate while AFK

We managed to survive with only a little over 110 million credits in insurance costs, majority of which came from the 9G world.

It has been an enjoyable 5 weeks! Together we have made just shy of 17,600 jumps according to EDSM, and traveled a little over 350,000 Ly.

A huge thanks again to the staff and management team to keep the ball rolling and come up with activities to keep us all busy!
Attached image is the final mass jump Thursday evening.

See you all next time!
