hehe some one explain this is about please ? - ( engineers )

got a powerplant rates at level 4 - gave this new engineer her cigars because she does level 5 ...after she has her cigars , now i get - to craft higher grade blueprints you need enough engineer reputation and to have completed all lower grade blueprints of the same type ? - err .... getting bored with this to be honest .

what am i suppose to do now ? very strange , once you start - aghh give up , what do i need to do now ???

Your question is more confusing than the engineering system...

1. Unlock engineer
2. Gain G5 reputation with engineer (level 1 allows G1 blueprints only, etc.)
3. Upgrade module(s) to G5
- Any new module will need to go through all 5 upgrade levels, but with G5 reputation it is mostly irrelevant (1 roll @ G1, 1-2 rolls @ G2... 6-10 rolls to max G5)
- Pin a blueprint and you can keep upgrading modules (with that blueprint) anywhere
- Add experimental effects at Engineer bases only

well im sorry you find it that way - i had a grade 4 module , but to get to level 5 ive had to go for something totally different to what i wanted , to gain level 5 with said engineer ( i tried to upgrade the original , but i get some silly bla bla message ) ... its not really that difficult .. why did i have to choose something else to achieve level 5 ? so now i need to grind again for materials and data !! pin sandro up ... hes bad for frontier .

A bit silly but that is how it works. Because you have just unlocked Hera Tani, you have to build your reputation with her before you are able to upgrade a module to Grade 5. Once you have upgraded a module, like you have done with your powerplant, you can not diwngrade it within that same spec. You have to either choose a different spec at Grade 1, or grind up the engineers rank using a different “throw-away” module.

i take it by now you have already scrapped your previous powerplant mod, but if you run into a similar situation in the future here is a good strategy I’ve used that seems to be the least painful:

Show up at engineer base for first time, observe “hmm i’ve already got a G4 overcharged PP, I want G5, but this stingy engi only grants G1 at the moment.” At this point either find out if the engineer offers upgrades for other modules (Hera Tani offers Distributor mods so you could go that route) or buy a “throw-away” powerplant in her shop.

Next select the throwaway PP for engineering and browse the offered blueprints. Note you are not looking for a blueprint you necessarily find desirable, you are looking for a blueprint where you have the highest amount of materials to apply Grades 1-4. So lets say you have selected a Class 3 powerplant as your throwaway, you see that you have plenty of materials to apply Grades 1-4 Low Emissions. So you would sit there and climb the engineers reputation ranks by mindlessly applying those blueprints to the throwaway pp until you acheive Grade 5 access with Hera Tani.

Then simply head to outfitting, re-equip your old engineered Powerplant, apply G5 overcharged once, apply an experimental effect if possible, and pin the blueprint for future maxing at your home station.

Is it a legacy module? As in, was it engineered pre 3.0? It sounds similar to an issue Ive had with a pair of legacy large multicannons which are G5 with corrosive special and an auto loader. Cant re engineer, game wont allow me even though Ive re engineered other stuff though Im none too fussed and still use both those cannons on the cutter cos they still marginally better than anything else I got after 3.0 ^

im going to rep you for your thorough explanation - i honestly thought i was wrong , but you have just echoed my experience - i ended up going for an over charged g5 - well not almost ... now i have to find a material ( aghhh silly game ) so i ended up with a grade 4 and 3/4 overcharged ... seems im gonna have to get used to sun burn ....
