Height Maps

Is there a way to get more height maps in the game? Would be nice to have some more options to start with. I find it dull work to build rivers and hills, but it's also challenging and frustrating at times.

I figure there must be someone who has created a bunch of these, but I've never been able to find a way to get any in the Workshop that I could then use in Career mode.

Yeah, they haven't been barely shared, at least the raw height png maps. It's a shame because I think it was a very useful update for folks like me who didn't want a flat map and struggle a bit using the terrain tools at big scale.

As the best approach, you can find some maps in the Steam workshop with non-flat terrain. Download them, delete everything built, and you will get a nice map.

A quick search on Planet Zoo's workshop page for 'heightmap' came up with over 20 heightmaps.
A quick google came up with this reddit post which includes a google drive link to a bunch of heightmap folders containing heightmaps and a screenshot of what they look like in game. (

I've personally tried creating a heightmap .. once .. but it didn't work out as good as I had hoped. So, more practise needed rofl. For now I just do manual terrain changes to fit the zoo or habitat I am working on. For example my Himalayan zoo had lots of mountains in but most are generally flat for ease.
