Heightmaps are awesome!

I have imported my first custom heightmap and used a 3D model as base.

The actual heightmap got squished in the process because i couldn't find a way to brighten up the image in an evenly distributed way (the whole map was sunken into the earth), so the differences between greyscales got smaller. But i think it looks more natural now.

That looks like a fun start for a zoo! I've not had much luck with creating my own. Can't make paint save as the right file type, and I don't have photoshop. Not sure what free programs might work.

Are there any sites where those of us who are still struggling with creating our own can actually go to download other player's height maps into their own game folder?

i did it, it works in paint (i think it was *.tif). maybe you saved it in the wrong folder, it is different to the random-map files. there is a guide by DeLadysigner at youtube, how and where to save the files.

I didn't even get to where I wanted to save anything I created in paint. I was struggling with grayscale settings.

I should watch her video on it. She's good at making stuff understandable.

I've been struggling with how to do the gray scale in paint. When I try to create different gray intensities to match the numbers for given elevations, it seems to add weird textures, and the colors get darker when they should be getting lighter. I just wanted to create one with a river in the middle and a few hills to start out and see how it works before I try anything fancier.

did you already solve the problem? if not: 1.open one of the frontier-random paps with paint. 2. use the pipette-tool in paint to selct the right basic +/-0 grey (at the edges f.e.), dont forget to klick both l and r mouse buttons 3. Use the rectange-tool in paint to make the whole map evenly grey quickly. 4. open the palette and look up the color values of that recently used grey (should be 150-190 or something for r, g and b) 5.if you want to draw a simple river, create a grey by increasing the values only by around 5-10 steps for rgb and draw your river with that.
