Helium-rich gas giant

Hello fellow explores,

I came across a Helium-rich gas giant. Last night, so I didn't got a chance to upload a picture yet. But I will do this once back at my flight computer. Didn't know they exist.

How rare are those? Was my first since the beginning of the year and I usually scan gas giants, if not too far away. So it seems pretty rare, huh.

Any one else found one?

EDIT: Added Picture

Looks like average compared to the UC Record book. Maybe the least amount of Helium cold be a record with 29.7%. But nice rings... Need a long range miner ;)

You'd never guess it by what UC pays for the data on these, but they are actually quite rare :) I've found a few, but these and water giants aren't very numerous it seems.

Rare is good. Hey we all know we are not doing it for money, right... :)
BTW what is the pay-out on those???

Found some water giants already and plenty of gas giants with water/ammonia base life.

IIRC, it's really low. I think it's somewhere in the 2000-4000cr range. The only type of gas giant worth anything noticable would be a class II - but you're right, we're not doing this for the money. If that's all I cared about I'd have stuck in the bubble; and no matter how little they're worth, finding a helium rich or water giant still makes me happy every time :)

I admittedly don't scan many gas giants and have only found 1 in my career - and recently. I was actually trying to find a Class V gas giant when I stumbled upon it, so I believe they are similar in where found and graphic.

Wow, I guess I lucked out then - found two helium rich gg's on my current trip, and several water giants too. Pretty sure I got the locations noted somewhere. I remember one was in a nebula, maybe a month ago.

That's the thing with the helium rich ones, they don't have separate graphics, they are just Class I gas giants (*) with slightly more helium than normal. Look at the examples at http://universalcartographics.org/record-category/helium-rich-gas-giants/. So you can't judge them from the system map, you've got to scan one first and look at the helium concentration. If it is something like 33% or higher (can't recall the exact figure) then all the gas giants in the system will have the same proportion and if there are any that would normally be Class I then it will be labelled 'Helium-Rich'.

* - it is possible that other classes are also shown as Helium-Rich not just Class I

IMO these are not only the rarest planets but also the rarest computer generated objects of any kind in the Galaxy. Out of ~6000 scanned systems i found only 2(!!) with Helium Rich GG. Five such planets in total. And actually i was actively looking for them :)
So yes, i think you got lucky :)

I've actually found a decent number of Helium-rich gas giants, but all the ones I've found have been within curated systems - never in a procgen system. Where was this one ?

Ok guys... you are starting to scare me a bit...

Like 5 months ago I came across a system with something like 12 or 16 -I can't recall exactly but it was in those numbers- of Helium rich planets!!!

Yes, I never found a single one ever again! But I was very impressed with the size of the system itself: it was massive!! I have all the data back home and coordinates. This was between the intermediate 4th quadrant and the Norma Expanse.

I looked them up cause it is indeed a rare finding, and I read somewhere that when you find one, you normally find many in the same system, confirming my discovery.

They were very nice and all, and I had a blast, but because I am never THAT guy that broke the record, or THAT guy that won the lottery, I figured someone else for sure had found a system with 30!! lol..

Will post the system and any pics I got later tonite if I get a chance. But truth be told, in the following 60,000 ly or so, never came across with one of those again.

Excellent finding OP!!! +Rep

The one I found was about 7.8kLy from the bubble. Will post stats later. Heck I may go back for some pics and videos. Just took one in the system map.

Exciting stuff. One Helium rich GG and an ELW under my belt ...

Yes, I remeber you reporting that. In fact I always go around boldly stating that "Helium Rich comes in Groups!!!!" and having 0 in my database.

BTW, this is Helium Rich Sound (recorded provided by AndyMJ since I am the worst):

Unfortunately this is the sound of the way more common Gas Giant bearing Ammonia Life. You know, it's difficult to discern between two types of SILENCE.

Just checked Universal Cartographics and a handful of the usual categories for records are missing.

Here was the one I found though - resembling a Class V giant.

I have been looking for a Helium-Rich gas giant during my whole trip to Sag A* and back, but never found one. This evening, after I saw your advice I started looking for gas giant atmospheres with unusual amounts of helium content. Soon enough I found a small class III gas giant with 30.5% helium, which triggered me to check out the other gas giants in the system. And there, at the edge of the system, sitting in the dark almost as if it tried to hide from passing-by explorers: my first Helium-Rich gas giant!!! It's almost too good to be true, but I double-checked and it's still there :D

I'm so happy I decided to give the star system and its main attraction a name: Allitnil's Counsel. In case you want to check it out you'll find the system under its canonical name "Skaudou JH-U D3-68", it's 9.5k ly from Sol.

Found my first ever Helium-Rich gas giant yesterday. Was blown away because in all my career spanning 15,000+ jumps this is the first I've ever seen.

Though just looked like a dirty brown water giant for the most part...

I just found my first "helium rich" and found this thread whilst looking for information on them. Strange thing about this one is, the helium content is only 31% - exactly the same the others in the same system and none of those state they are helium rich!
