I cannot quite recall, though the name, "Elite" sounds familiar and if at one point, I bought it, I am sure it is somewhere, though last year I moved in with my GF and moved some things to my parents' home, though they are not to happy about it. However, my gf and I recently moved, as in last week, and just got online yesterday and I was able to play for a short stint, in solo mode. I practiced the offline tutorials a few times, however there is not much of an array, though they did get me closer to being "battle ready". Anyhow, as soon as I'd eaten and gotten some things organized, tho my pc setup is temp., I hopped online. Quickly I acclimated miceelf to my surroundings and took on a delivery, a few systems away. Kinda should have made a video because everything was a success and I even docked on a 10? sided space station and made my delivery for 934 credits. The only hitch was I thought it was paused when I was setting up options and reviewing them for any help, as the station was spinning, while in menus I smacked a corner of it and cause 230 credits worth of damage, which I promptly repaired after being docked. As well, the video would have been quite interesting bc of my comments and it was a total success. I have a nack for computers, starting out gaming on a Fairchild Entertainment System in the 70's, my fathered owned an electronic repair shop in Illinois. He sold the business when solid state was replacing tubes, essentially and we moved back to his home state of Connecticut. So after he finished building the solar home he designed, we settled in and around 1983 my father got a TRS-80 Color Computer. Santa must have had his eyes trained on me and how I took to the computer, for when the TRS-80 Color Computer 2 came to be, he brought me one for Christmas. I still have the CoCo II, currently at my folks' house, I like to take care of my things. Must have been easy for Santa to notice, because mostly, I lived in the woods with my family; mom, brother, sister, dad, dog, random chickens, frogs, woodsy creatures and I pretty much played with sticks and rocks, frogs, bb guns, blew stuff up, the typical boy-will-be-boy, though I didn't have Star Wars figures, tonka trucks, my folks were less sold on the marketing aspect of certain things, I have to say, it seems, and more focused on me growing up not typical endulged American kid. Perhaps the fact money was tight, bc my father took care of his family and didn't get himself in debt to try to impress those around him. Or I could be wrong and I'm a science project, put into place by wookies, oh and don't get me wrong, Star Wars was and still is some of the most awe-inspiring stuff for me; as in I remember going home from Empire Strikes back and trying to move marbles with my mind. Empire was the first episode. I'm one of those people who know for a fact, Han Solo shot first and he was an intergalactic smuggler, womanizer (perhaps, there was only really one woman for him to get-along-so-well with). I am not fond of the Greedo shoots first thing because we want our children to be total politically correct and think the world is all Jar Jar binks and honesty, because it sure is not.
Anyhow, I could go on, and I will, and prosper. So, I wanted to introduce myself. I have an 8th grade education, so if I misspell or get some grammar or composition wrong, don't hesitate to educate me as such, I'd rather know the proper, than the improper.
(seriously, though, I left HS in 9th grade, and seriously, though, I like learning and knowledge). I got Elite a week or two ago but was unable to play as my friend's connection is maybe 3-4 mbps and when my gf watches Netflix, I couldn't play any games, though I only really had one chance to play solo and then we started moving our stuff. The above experience, would have made a good tutorial video, so perhaps that is what I am going to do today. Might have been more helpful bc it was my first online play and my chatter was all about figuring it out, not explaining too much, as well I kinda wish I had it, though I remember everything I did, I know it was humorous, esp. the part where the space station nearly knocked me into another system while I was in the menu looking to find out if I was missing some sorta information which would lead me to docking bay #32.... The station was quite large. Oh, I didn't mention, I'm one to not read manuals, self-taught I am. Started with Assembly language, of course after BASIC, in 6th grade, went on to work on PASCAL, DBase, Visual Basic, started with 3, left it for a while and actually still had the 3.5" floppies so when I got VB6, I had a legitimate upgrade. As well, HTML (of course, duh), PHP, MYSQL, LUA, misc. other things. I think the way I apply miceelf, is what helps me to learn fast and retain so much information.
I am glad to see the AUTOSAVE feature in the forum, but I must say, I've been doing something for years, some of you may find helpful and fast. Forget the MAC shortcuts, or never cared to quite recall
but in Windows, while you're typing in a text box as such I'm filling in this rather long and dull introduction, the focus is on the text box, you can hold CTRL and hit A to SELECT ALL (in box) then release A, still holding CTRL hit C and it will copy the entire contents (for the most part) to the clipboard (then release CTRL). That helps in case the browser screws up, your internet conn. is iffy, etc. I usually open NOTEPAD and will paste it in and save-it, depending on the length and amount of time I have into the text, as well as content. Over the years (built my first PC in 1991) I've came up with some good content but lost it due to a crash or some random event. For example, Facebook had the CANCEL button right next to the POST button and one time, having a beer, wrote a note to a friend and missed the POST button, instead hit cancel and I could not get back the thoughts or effort I put into the message, so I gave FB a hard time about it. Who puts the SELF DESTRUCT button right next to the MORE BEER button? They should be farthest thing apart, if there is such a button
The shortcuts work fast, too, forget moving the mouse up to the menu bar, and if you don't like (left) CTRL, you can tap ALT to bring up the menu, then tap the RIGHT ARROW then the DOWN ARROW and you will be on the EDIT menu option. Shortcuts are Fun!
I have a tendency to blurt out a lot of blather. I am gonna save this, perhaps re-read it, even lol, just because. A bit more background, I started a computer business in 1998, within a couple of years met an antique dealer, signed on with him to create a website, which turned into a co-located server on a fast pipe in NJ and custom software I wrote in VB for him to add and edit items and which created his website, optimized for search engine recognition. We used to get over half a million unique visitors and I have some screen caps of us coming up in the top 3 for "antiques" and from gamer-friends around the world, who were kind enough to Google "antiques" and send me their screen caps. Eventually, the co-located server (and backup) was a pain in the neck, as well, prices and technology changed so I moved the site to a new host who allowed me to write files, taught myself PHP and MYSQL and the antique shop is still using the software, though the traffic has dropped as many searches have become "regionalized", amongst other changes and two years ago I got "laid off" (wrote myself out of a job, though I am not complaining I like customers to be self-sufficient) So an acquaintance hired me on as a landscraper / landscape constructor / weed wacker / trench digger, etc. I like hard, honest work, but I'm def. going to get back to the computer aspect, as my hands are kinda rough now and my monkey suffers because of it.
