Hello and Yay! Runs Beautifully in 4K res

Hi All,
I finally got on board with the beta. I am old and played the original Elite on the C-64.
My Gaming rig is an I7 proc with an Nvidia 780TI and a 65" 4K(UHD) Curved tv as my primary monitor. (I have a 55" 1080p phht as my secondary)

Anyway I was very pleased to find that ED combat beta runs beautifully at 3840 x 2160. I get 60+ fps in the asteroid fields with all settings on High except Shadows (medium) and AA off. At 4K you really dont' need AA, even on a 65" screen. It looks glorious and pin sharp.

My X-55 Hotas turns up in a day or so. I already have an X-52 but I want more Hats.... more Hats man!!!!

I am still working through the combat missions and cant wait until the 29th when I can supercruise to a station.

Look forward to seeing you in the Multi-player. I will be the slow old guy causing traffic jams in the fast lane. :D

Regards
Bill D

Welcome to the forum Bill.

Nice setup you've got there.

Bill, you have an epic rig

Congratulations, and have fun. We're quite a grown up / middle age bunch here us early backers anyway. Personally I've recently turned 40, and some of the bigger kids around here make me feel very young :D

30 years old and I feel like I'm the youngest one here :) .. I did not play the first elite, however I found frontier first encounters one of the greatest games I've ever played.. and also I'm a beta backer of ED :p ..... good to have you on board Bill :)

P.S the X55 is completely awesome :) I cannot imagine playing it without it now.

Nice setup, ED should look wonderful.

Welcome to the forum, I’ve only just arrived myself, I'm old too .

In-fact you may see me out there in some asteroid belt, reclining with a cup of cocoa, everything turned down/off, soaking it all in.

Multiplayer will let you S/cruise now, if you want. I did the first 5 scenarios but couldn't wait to get out and about, so went into MP.

I think you’ll need that second monitor to keep stats on, that’s what I’ll be doing I reckon. Trading and so on could get pretty complicated memory wise, especially for me, lousy memory, I used a pad and pen in the old days.
Also if groups become prevalent, it may be worth keeping stats on them too.

They’ve done a fine job with this game so far, a credit to them.

I am busy key mapping at the moment, not a stick fighter, mouse/nostromo, not really much of a dog-fighter now, not fast enough brain wise, cells have gone. Trading and exploring for me, maybe discover a new, well, whatever..

It’s a great game BillD

See you in space maybe..:)
