Hello darkness, my old friend...?

So: Hey all together!

I was just trying to see whether the new lighting system would provide more natural behavior of light - in tunnels or caves especially.

Well, what I found out was rather disappointing.

Yes, tunnels seemed to be darker when looking down them from the outside. But trying to go inside and closing all entrances was rather.... well, disappointing as I said.

It did not appear to be darker than when being in shadow of objects - which I find quite annoying though.

This leads to questions:

a) To devs: Will that once be possible? And how far will lighting change when inside a building?

b) To community: Did I do sth wrong and missed a way to darken certain spots?

[Edit]: I found, that darkness is becoming more intense when moving far underground, but stays like shadow-ish daylight when building a cave on top of the earth.

I guess...I made a Wolf Cave...it's so dark....you can't Even see the rails anymore. So....You might doing something wrong, or I didn't get all of your mesage. LOl

Well, for those who'd like to know - I found out.

What matters for darkness inside rooms is the amount of terrain above you. I built a two wall building with 12m between the walls and filled the space with terrain.

When filling the roof, I saw that:

- when terrain goes through and below the roof (and is thick enough), lighting changes and becomes dark

- it does not matter how much terrain you put - if there is a roof between it and you, you will not notice any darkness in the described setting.

Now the question is... Is it a bug or is it a feature?

It is nothing but a mistake, with even 2 inches of closed off in every direction you wouldn't see anything but darkness in real life. ( As long as it isn't transparent)

Thanks for the info. The latest video describing the new feature says only 'terrain lighting' or some sort. Your info just verifies that the game now only supports dark spaces from terrain and not from roof. It's justifiable because this whole shadow vs. darkness takes a lot of optimization before implemented on user PCs.
