Hello From a New Member

Hi Everyone,

I had been planning to back ED for a long while, and finally dived in at the premium Beta level. I've been playing the alpha 1.1 content on and off over the weekend and enjoyed it immensely.

Initially I tried to set it up with the saitek x55 but it didn't seem to recognise the axis of the throttle or stick at all ? I figured this was maybe because the Hotas was released post 1.1 alpha build ? Anyway I gave the KB and mouse a go, and I have to say I found this extremely intuitive, I haven't messed around with turning flight assist off, and am unlikely to do this very much in the final game.

Just wanted to say Hi, and how much I am now looking forward to May 30 :)

Welcome to Elite Dangerous.

I've heard anecdotal evidence - I'm sure I read it somewhere here - to suggest that the Saitek X55 HOTAS joystick wasn't supported in the early Alpha builds.

Welcome Commander! I’m finding the 360-pad a delight, x-55 is not currently listed in alpha 3.4 but I’m sure in time further peripherals will be supported.

E: D supports a wide variety of controllers. If your controller doesn't have a default setup, you just assign a custom one yourself - click the empty box beside function name/description and press the appropriate button or twist the appropriate axis. Rinse and repeat, until you've mapped those functions you think you might need (no need to map something to every possible place).

Welcome! The problem with the Saitek X55 is that it is 2 joystick devices. Alpha 1.1 can only recognize 1 joystick (It should work fine in beta). Just unplug the throttle and you can use the stick fine :) (Or the other way around if you prefer)

Alpha 1 didn't support multi-device setups. This has been addressed in the later build.

Welcome to the forum Herne and thanks for supporting the game. The X55 is quite a popular HOTAS setup so I am hopeful Frontier will update the game with a profile for it further along the line. In anycase, have fun in the forum.
