Hello Games have smashed it out of the park

ED has flaws, but then again, who cares about NMS; it's literally Minecraft in space made by lying, money grabbing snipholes. Enjoy yourself.

the underlying point is sound though as the competition gets more stronger we will see either a decline in player numbers or a ramp up in communication and development.

Yes ED is a slow burner but it's getting slower as time goes on and as stated Hello games have changed their game around in a really short time so the ball is in FDEVs court.

That's so dismissive of the point OP was trying to make =/

In response to OP, i can agree with what you're saying to an extent. Elite dangerous is a monster of a game imo. What took NMS 2 years to turn around could have a higher turn around time for ED. That said i would expect ED to have alot more staff working on the game so it's a bit of a grey area. But i get what you are saying and i do think ED needs to step up a bit.

I personally would like a little bit more narrative to be injected into this game to make me actually care about it. I'm a little tired of ED playing coy with it's story. Insisting it's there to be found but frustrating players into leaving (hope that makes sense, i was typing a bit rushed)

Let me predicate by saying i realise NMS and ED are different types of games in most ways. However, i do believe that the commercial success of one will generally come at the expense of the other. For simple souls like myself i only really require one space game to scratch that itch. Some of you will suggest playing both but bear in mind most players don't actually have the time for both. So to that end i think it's a reasonable assumption to say ED and NMS are competitors.

Okay, so NMS Next really is a good game now. It's still far from perfect but Hello Games have delivered finally. Now that's 2 years and you can REALLY see the work that's gone into turning that game around. That's what can be achieved when a game developer genuinely cares about delivering on the vision they had for their creation. And they're STILL going to keep developing.

ED by comparison has been plagued by slow development and an increasingly disenfranchised player base. ED is better than NMS in some ways but, for me, lacks the variety and narrative that NMS has. NMS is now a more engaging and enjoyable gaming experience for me. If FDev want me back they're going to have to do some major work on the mission system and bring in those 2 features we have all discussed and debated - space legs and atmospheres. I would wager many players will be jumping ship (pardon the pun) given the success of the new NMS update. Preasure is on FDev. You've had 4 years of this game being developed slowly without real competition. Let's see gow you cope now that a stronger competitor has arrived.

And no, you can't have my stuff as i hope to be back soon.

No lies detected.

Guys.. I hate to state the obvious, but since you don't seem to realise, the reason Beyond is free and light on features is because ED went into idle mode while Jurassic Park was getting developed. Elite will get its turn to shine again. Seeing as how you're so quick to forgive all the deliberate deception by Hello Games, I'm sure you'll be praising FD again in no time.

I've said the same. I expect 2019 to be the year they start delivering paid update DLCs and finally making good on the backer lifetime passes.
