Let me predicate by saying i realise NMS and ED are different types of games in most ways. However, i do believe that the commercial success of one will generally come at the expense of the other. For simple souls like myself i only really require one space game to scratch that itch. Some of you will suggest playing both but bear in mind most players don't actually have the time for both. So to that end i think it's a reasonable assumption to say ED and NMS are competitors.
Okay, so NMS Next really is a good game now. It's still far from perfect but Hello Games have delivered finally. Now that's 2 years and you can REALLY see the work that's gone into turning that game around. That's what can be achieved when a game developer genuinely cares about delivering on the vision they had for their creation. And they're STILL going to keep developing.
ED by comparison has been plagued by slow development and an increasingly disenfranchised player base. ED is better than NMS in some ways but, for me, lacks the variety and narrative that NMS has. NMS is now a more engaging and enjoyable gaming experience for me. If FDev want me back they're going to have to do some major work on the mission system and bring in those 2 features we have all discussed and debated - space legs and atmospheres. I would wager many players will be jumping ship (pardon the pun) given the success of the new NMS update. Preasure is on FDev. You've had 4 years of this game being developed slowly without real competition. Let's see gow you cope now that a stronger competitor has arrived.
And no, you can't have my stuff as i hope to be back soon.
