Elite / Frontier Hello & question about Arc Elite

Hi there
I've lurked around here on off for quite a while, but never had a reason to post until now.
I first played Elite on a BBC B, but I was quite young then, and couldn't get the hang of it. It wasn't until I had an Amiga a couple of years later that I got totally hooked. I know that the Amiga version of Elite isn't neccessarily the best, but it is the one that I spent hours playing.
I then got into Frontier on the Amiga, then on the PC and I really enjoyed FFE, which I played through to the end of the missions. I still have an FFE session every now and again.
Anyway, with the 25th anniversary and all, I thought it would be fun to play Elite again, and I thought I might try the Archimedes version which I have heard so many good things about.
I've got an emulator (Archulator) and the game itself successfully working, but there is a strange problem. I could never get the hang of controlling Elite from a mouse. I really need to play with keys. But Arc Elite just won't respond to keys. I've downloaded the manual, so I know I'm trying the right ones.
At first, I thought that the emulator was not responding to the keyboard, but actually, all the function keys and weapons controls in Elite work fine, so I can change views and so on. It's literally just the keys to control the motion of the ship which aren't working. I've tried with caps lock on and off.
Does this version of Elite need me to specify that I want to use the keyboard or something? Anyone have any ideas?
Cheers

Hello! :)

Dunno how experienced you are with an Archimedes, but...

1. After you've loaded the game, select "Desk" from the bottom right of the screen

2. With the mouse over the Elite icon at the bottom of the screen (named after your Commander) hit the middle mouse button. As most PC mice don't have a middle button, use the key to the right of the spacebar, next to Ctrl.

3. Select Preferences and disable the mouse, then "Save" if you want this permanently or "OK" just for this time.

4. Go back into the game. The mouse will still work before you launch, but after that you can use the keys for flying (S,X,<,>)

Thanks! I'll try that out.
We had an Archimedes at school, and I was quite familiar with it then, but it's been a long, long time.
