Hello! Where is the thread to seek clarification on the Forum rules, please?

I'm trying hard not to do anything wrong, like posting in the wrong place. So please help me to help you!

I don't want to necro the necro thread (even though it was left open and not archived) but I want to find the stated rules on whether we need to start a new thread every time we ask about or clarify something in an existing thread from a couple of years ago. Among other questions.

I've looked but can't see a questions thread.

How about this 'un, CMDR Cral

In my own newcomer opinion, well I think just start a new post making reference to the old one, at yr discretion, would be by my 2 CR. But you can't take that to the bank because it's just my intuition. My 2 wooden CR then!

Searched: nothing on necro in those.
Maybe time for someone to update them?
They're from 2016 and 2017, so a bit necro-ish themselves....

  1. The one about bumping and hijacking looks to be the closest.
  2. Maybe.
  3. Not really as there is nothing newer responding to them in the thread.
The problem with necros is not how much they break or bend the rules but how they can bring up obsolete issues/advice that refer to things no longer in the game.

Some people dislike them and will make it known via pictures of zombies or skeletons.

The worst ones are those where someone answers a question or offers a solution to a problem that is many years old.

It is best when someone responds in a 5yo necro with a statement or question directed at the OP. Expecting some kind of reply?

Very odd. Definitely makes more sense when it's still an ongoing or revived issue, and the answer is used by people like me who search for solutions (and often find them in old or necro'd threads).

There's no hard and fast rule but in most cases it should, hopefully, be fairly obvious.

If there's a generic thread, or a thread that was asking questions about something that is still pertinent or valid, then posting in it to carry on the conversation is fine.

If the thread your necroing is about a bug, or an issue with some gameplay elements that have probably or definitely changed, then there is no point in continuing that conversation.

Far too many times people will necro a thread about something not working properly, when it has been fixed or the entire mechanics changed since then. All this does is cause confusion. In generally if the thread is a year old or more, then you'll be better off making a new one. Duplicate threads are only closed if there's a recently active one.

Meh

If the thread is still open and still relevant, who cares

If it was that important to FD the should auto-close threads after a given period of inactivity

Great way to start meaningless criticism
