OOC>New commander here to say hello community. Currently l am playing solo mode.

IC> Greetings. I was wondering if anyone has come across any useful travel log tools?
.
I am mildly concerned that I may be a bit lost. Funny thing - I failed to record the name of my starting system...and now probably 80-100ly away have noticed an increase in the strength of hostile ships. So I'd love to head back to eh..er... where I was before. I do know that according to my ships statistics visited 31 new systems. Looking at my cartography data will allow me to piece some of it together.
.
If no such travel logs exists it is not a problem, I can begin one on my tablet (which I should have done before aimlessly blazing off into furtherness).
.
.
Last, is there a map that shows roughly the region of human occupied systems?
.
ooc> I plan to join the MP mode, only though when I feel satisfied that I can make a meaningful contribution - as for now I am bumbling about and loving it.

Firstly, welcome to the forums. If you have any questions you've come to the right place.

There are no logs in-game but you can run a third-party app to document your travels - better if you have a 2-monitor layout though. Commanders Log is pretty good for this and also has a built-in kinda spreadsheet for noting down commodity prices.

To view the extent of populated space just go to the galaxy map and zoom out. Once the colours disappear that's the border. It's very small in relation to the actual galaxy.

Fly safe commander.

Thank you for the advice, I most certainly will use it.

LHS 3447, at Trevithick Station, was probably your starting station. I've read of a few people that started at Corsi, but the majority seem to start at LHS 3447.

Valuable input - yes that station name does ring familiar. You have been a great help.

I've been using Slopey's BPC (Best Profit Calculator) for my travel log and note taking. I've got it set up on a second laptop next to my throttle control so I can access it without having to mouse over from the game. It can access the logs from the Elite game via network. Ended up going with a second computer since I inevitably jumped into a system and ended up nearly flying into a star since BPC had system focus. This makes it easy to take notes on systems good for bounty hunting or smuggling and also its primary purpose, calculating profitable trade routes.
