Helmet Intergrated Gunsight

title says it all, so for the rest of the brave lads and lasses that like to fly shieldless and use fixed projectile weapons, can we please get some sort of backup gunsight for when the inevitable happens and we lose the canopy? its hard enough, for me atleast with the gunsight but once the canopy has gone its next to impossible

I think that's kind of the point. :D The devs have resisted any form of advanced HUDs, HMS systems or big arrows saying 'target this way' in favour of the WWII fighter in space approach. Not saying I agree with that, but, 'them's the apples...' as they say.

so its gimbals or go home? it doesnt have to be anything fancy just a simple backup of lag or lead pips whichever the person prefers.

I cant believe we had no hud capability to check enemy speed either... mental gynmastics while in combat is no fun.

If your canopy is out, shouldn't you be thinking of home anyway? [Or, you could go low tech, and tape some acetate to the centre of the screen. Or use a 3rd party overlay. None of which are ideal, but... still... your canopy is out... RUN!]

I've asked so many times for relative velocity and range cues. :(

If you get / use a Track IR 5 you pretty much have a helmet intergrated gunsight. Just not when you lose your canopy of course.

thats the thing though, you can lose the canopy rather fast and still have ship that can fight if you had some sort of backup, it just further enforces the whole
shield + gimbal mentality

The more advanced hud would be excellent addition to the game - but unfortunately at this moment I don't think FD will change/add anything to it.
What is funny - I asked long long time ago for velocity vector on the HUD and one of the devs said during the later forum discussion that the current HUD (the one that we still have) is a almost a place holder. (no unfortunately there is no way to dig this topic out atm).
Simplified HUD is a design decision and we are stuck with it.

One of the cons of using a fixed weapon is losing your canopy. Adding a HUD to the helmet will only benefit fixed weapon users. Reducing the risk of using them.

Its bad enough that gimbals weapons are defeated by chaff, making fixed stronger won't help.

i dont want a more advanced hud, i just want a backup gunsight in the helmet for when the canopy gets blown out and i have to start guessing where i have to shoot. if any other gimbal and turret weapon can keep on putting rounds on target with ease then people who use fixed projectiles should be able to also.

that would be more than useful - I agree. +1

the only drawback to using fixed weapons, especially ones that require a predictive gunsight to use should be users ability to put rounds on target
