Help! A Zombie follows me!!!


Hello dear Frontier Developers,
i need your help! I get followed by a Zombie-NPC. You know the problem of the non-persistant and spawn-based NPC's?


Okay let us start from beginning. I'm a capable but very lazy Pilot. If a Pirate follows me i don't destroy them in most circumstances if i'm out of my home because i don't want to make a break in my Journey to collect these Bountys. Otherwise they would spam my Mission Tab.
Today it happened again, that a NPC-Pirate followed me in a system, where i wanted nothing more than collecting some composites. He interdicted me and i was unable to win the minigame. But since i don't wanted the Bounty i just jumped back to Supercruise. OKAY i know this doesn't help but hope dies last, and as expected he interdicted me again.
Now it was going funny. I don't wanted to go to the starport so i just have shut down his powerplant. As it was at 0% i jumped away again in the hope that this scratchs him off. NOPE he followed me back to Supercruise with a powerplant at 0% and interdicted me again.....just to shut systems down as soon as we dropped out of Supercruise =D
Funny....i thought i take out now his FSD to make him unable to move....lol NOPE!! Everytime i drop in a new USS in this system to collect mats, he spawns right at my side again!!!
Okay what shall i do with him to scratch him finally off? I have
-destroyed powerplant (Kraftwerk)
-destroyed thrusters (Antrieb)
-destroyed lifesupport (Lebenserhaltung)
-destroyed Frameshiftdrive (FSA)
And now, everytime i drop into a new USS......YEAH he is already there with exact these destroyed systems xD LOOOL

Between...during typing this....the Zombie NPC still spins in front of my Ship with 7% Hull :D

Personally i would just destroy the NPC and keep the bounty till 2.2 drops , youll then be able to cash in anywhere in the bubble.. i have about 4 million worth of bounties that im waiting on 2.2 to drop so i can finally clean up my mission tab as i dont fancy spending hours tracking down random systems where i picked the bounty up from.
 
I have left my ship there to go to the supermarket.
When i return i try to continue, just let us see how many emergency life-support an NPC has or when he hit's selfdestruct xD
I always wondered why an NPC interdicts me again after i have reduced him to 5% without loosing one ring from my own shield. Or how if they even breath.
And why he doesn't use the repair sequenz to get out of there :D
 
Some glitch, it must surely be? Funny but creepy though!

Not a glitch, just the result of the not so ideal NPC interdiction spam mechanics.

If the player doesn't kill the NPC - by kill I mean get the bounty and not just being part of the destruction of the NPC - the NPC will be happily interdicting the player the next ½s in super cruise and will do it again and again and again and…

If the player doesn't win the interdiction, then the NPC will interdict the players CMDR again and again and again and…

If the player jumps out of the instance where the NPC is currently fighting NPC security ship, guess what - jupp - the NPC will fight the NPCs and a new version of the NPC will interdict the player CMDR again and again …

And that NPC suddenly showing up in instances is equally annoying (especially if that instance is a CZ).

It's simple, the only ways to get rid of a NPC interdictor is to win the interdiction or to kill the NPC or to jump to an other system.

FD really needs to fix that, because it's simply just annoying.

I find it interesting that the destroyed modules stay destroyed.

Usually if I damage an NPC and low-wake out, when he interdicts me again he's back to full health.

This is because the NPC is re-spawned each time.

But in this case the damage was persistent. Makes me wonder...is there a mechanism that actually attempts to remember the damage? If so, then it's broken most of the time.
 
Really great. I once had an NPC that tried to rob me evertime I tried to mine in a specific system. Always the same guy. At least 20 times. Unless one day he tried to mine himself. So I went over to him and catched every grain of rock he was mining. And you know what? He was ok with it.

I did that some time before giving him a little push into a spinning asteroid.
Next time he played pirate again.

Thanks for the report and sorry for the frustration caused by this persistant NPC.

Did you end up killing the NPC in the end?

We're making some changes to NPC behaviour in 2.2, if you encounter anything like this after the next update please do let me know.

Seems that we can look forward in some serious changes about this spawn behavior in 2.2 :)
 
now that's a funny story. and kudos to you for your respect towards the ED npc's. I would never have the patience to do that.
I've found something else with the npc behaviour though. last weeks, whenever I get the message "suprised you made it this far..." while fuelscooping, I throttle back to the minimum and just sit there. each time the npc just slams into the star and I'll be on my merry way.

That never occurred to me (or I'm just naturally bloodthirsty). I always pull away from the star and wait for the interdiction before blowing them up. I'll try the "watch the fireworks" option next time.
 
That's brilliant. Why don't you keep him? He can be your mascot. :D

I've shot him now since the risk was too high crashing into him when dropping out of supercruise.
And than i would be the wanted because this is kill without scanning -.-

And guess what? Right, i have forgotten to collect the bounty :( THIS is the reason why i didn't wanted to shoot him off. Uncollected bounty voucher in my missions tab for ages!
